  <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach | Invitation to Bid No. 17‐05‐01  54    <br />  <br />3.13.9 Shallow tine slice aeration shall be performed at least twice per year to provide proper air <br />and water exchange for maximum growth potential and health of St. Augustine turf in parks <br />only. Aeration shall result in a hole depth of 5 inches with average spacing of 16 holes per <br />square foot. In areas with noticeable compaction and wear, additional aeration will be <br />required at no additional cost. Coordinate dates for this work with the City. Contractor is to <br />check the depth of any wires, irrigation or utilities prior to application. <br />  <br />3.14 SPECIAL CONDITIONS FOR BERMUDA TURF <br /> <br />Bermuda turf shall be vibrant, healthy, green, thatch free and nutrient rich at all times. Apply high <br />quality commercial fertilizer and soil amendments to maintain best horticultural practices and <br />standards for major and minor nutrients, and optimum soil pH levels year-round to ensure healthy <br />and vibrant Bermuda turf as defined by the City, at its sole discretion. Contractor shall complete a <br />minimum of (4) soil analyses per year to verify the major and minor element requirements as well <br />as pH levels, and adjust fertilizer application and soil amendments as needed to maintain year-round <br />healthy and vibrant turf, subject to City approval. Submit all soil analyses to City for review. <br /> <br />3.14.1 MOWING BERMUDA TURF <br />The mowing of Bermuda turf is not to exceed 1 ½” and not below 1” or as directed by City <br />with a reel type or rotary type with contour deck mower. Remove all clippings and thatch <br />after each cut. Cutting blades and bed-knife shall be washed down before and after each <br />use to prevent the spread of spores, weed seeds and other contaminants. Mow and edge <br />all Bermuda turf a minimum of two (2) times per week, including weekends (104 cuts per <br />year). Turf shall be cross-cut and direction shall be changed weekly. <br /> <br />3.14.2 FUNGUS & INSECT CONTROL <br />Insects and fungus in Bermuda turf shall be controlled by both curative and preventative <br />measures. Apply fungicide at the first symptoms of fungal presence in Bermuda turf. Follow <br />manufacturer’s instructions for application methods and amounts. Turf shall be maintained <br />to remain 100% fungus free year-round. <br /> <br />Apply ‘TopChoice’ manufactured by Bayer or approved equal for fire ant and mole cricket <br />control two times per year minimum on Bermuda turf. Timing will be critical on mole <br />cricket applications and frequencies or application will be as needed to successfully control <br />their infestations. Nematode samples will be taken at least two (2) times per year and <br />action shall be taken per the recommendation of the lab results to control the populations. <br />Follow manufacturer’s instructions for application methods and amounts. Any turf <br />damaged due to over/under treatment shall be the responsibility of the Contractor and all <br />damaged material shall be replaced, within one (1) week of the damage being noticed, at <br />the Contractor’s expense, at no cost to the City. Turf shall be maintained to remain 100% <br />pest free year-round. <br /> <br />3.14.3 FERTILIZATION <br />For fertilization on Bermuda turf, the Contractor shall apply Polyon 22-0-22 slow release
