THE ARTIST
Daniel Knorr (b. 1968 Bucharest, Romania) lives and works in Berlin, studied from 1989 until 1995
at the Academy for Fine Arts in Munich and right after at the Vermont College of Norwich in the
United States of America.
His work has been widely exhibited around the world in prominent institutions and museums, such
as The Museum of Modern of Art of Warsaw, the National Museum of Fine Art of Budapest, the
Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, Kunsthalle Basel, Kunsthalle Zurich, Centre Pompidou in Paris,
and many others. He has also participated in major art festivals such as the Berlin Biennale, and
represented Romania in the 51 Venice Biennale. In 2017 he participated in Documenta both in
Athens and Kassel.
Knorr's art focuses on the concept of materialisation. Performance versus everyday life as well
as public versus private space and the relationships between artist and audience are some
significant aspects of his work. Pursuing the principle of conceptual art, Knorr explores the aspect
of materialisation in art, calling it into question on various levels. Thoughts, ideas and feelings, but
also identity, language and text all contribute to the realisation of his art.
