RESOLUTION NO. 2012 - 19 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH,FLORIDA,APPROVING ENTERING INTO A SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CITY OF TAORMINA, ITALY; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, sister city relationships are developed to increase global cooperation at the municipal level,promoting cultural understanding and stimulating economic development; and WHEREAS,Sister Cities International based in Washington,D.C.,is the organization that formally recognizes sister city relationships worldwide; and WHEREAS, on May 10, 2012 via Resolution No. 2012-1902, the City Commission authorized the establishment of a sister city relationship with Taormina, Italy, a coastal resort community similar to Sunny Isles Beach,and Taormina,Italy had expressed an interest in twinning with the City of Sunny Isles Beach; and WHEREAS,through research and a site visit,the City of Taormina,Italy,was confirmed to be a suitable partner in a Sister City relationship with the City; and WHEREAS,the City of Sunny Isles Beach desires to sign an official Sister City Agreement with the City of Taormina, Italy at a formal ceremony on Monday,November 19, 2012. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH,FLORIDA,AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval to Enter into a Sister City Relationship. The City Commission hereby approves entering into a Sister City relationship with the City of Taormina, Italy. Section 2. Authority of the City Manager. The City Commission hereby authorizes the City Manager to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date.
