AMCA I MEMBER � SPORTS ERI BUILDERS ASSOCIATION Pr o Gs O First in Turf 0 Founded in 1965 as the U.S. Tennis Court& Track Builders Association, ASBA impresses upon its members the importance of maintaining industry standards to ensure that consumers receive the highest possible level of 1 service,and consequently, the best possible facility, whether it is used at the personal, recreational, training or competitive level. II It is the philosophy of the ASBA and its members that a well-built sports facility increases the enjoyment of the sport, provides the right environment for better performance, and serves to attract new enthusiasts. The Association encourages high standards of work among its members; it publishes its own construction guidelines, sponsors annual awards programs to recognize outstanding design and construction work, holds meetings, publishes 2 newsletters and maintains an active program,that.allows.members to answer the public's questions. One of the programs offered by ASBA is its certification program. Certification is offered in three disciplines: sports field construction, running track construction and tennis court construction. The designation awarded to those who have successfully completed‘the program with regard to sports fields is that of Certified Field Builder, or CFB. The CFB designation is"�arded to individuals who have passed a comprehensive examination to demonstrate IIknowledge of allfacets of sports field construction. The ASBA's certification program has become recognized'as the star ard.of-achieveme t for sports facility construction. \, eThe program was developed by builders, using an examination designed'by psychometric professionals (those skilled in the science of testing) and is administered by the Association. It required■a lengthy and comprehensive application process (in which the applicant mustNdisplay an extensive amount of experience in all aspects of tennis court 1 construction) as well as,asignificant amount reference-checking, all of whic .must be fulfilled before n applicant can sit for the exam. The goal of the the certification program is to encourage excellence in construction and in personal achievement. The Certified Field a Builder designation is individual,while membership irithe Association is held by the company. Within the certification program as it pertains to sports field builders, there are various levels of certification. Certified Field Builder(CFB) implies an overall knowledge of sports field construction and maintenance, for both natural grass Iand synthetic turf facilities. The designation of Certified Field Builder-Synthetic (CFB-S) is for those who have specific knowledge in synthetic turf facilities, while the designation of Certified Field Builder-Natural (CFB-N) shows a specific • knowledge of natural grass facilities. 11 Membership in the ASBA reflects a commitment to excellence as well as to the industry itself. The American Sports Builders Association encourages the public to call at any time to verify the membership of any potential designer, flcontractor or supplier, or the certification of any individual.
