Maas, Chief of Police <br /> DATE: 2/15/2018 <br /> Approval to Expend Partial Forfeiture (DOJ and LETF) <br /> RE: Funds Law Enforcement Training and Miscellaneous <br /> Community Policing; Events, Sponsorships, Equipment <br /> and Novelty Give-A-Way Items <br /> RECOM M ENDAT ION: <br /> It is recommended that the City Commission approve the expenditure <br /> of partial Federal (DOJ) and Local Law Enforcement (LETF) <br /> Forfeiture Funds, previously awarded to the Police Department as the <br /> results of investigative participation in forfeiture and seizure cases. <br /> These funds are permissible by law to be spent for the purchases of <br /> police equipment and other law enforcement activities. It is requested <br /> that we be permitted to utilize up to $25,000.00 of said funds on <br /> deposit for such purpose. <br /> REASONS: <br /> The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department actively participates in DEA <br /> / FBI / HI DTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) Initiative Group <br /> that conducts numerous ongoing proactive investigations and has a <br /> need for the attached listed equipment. These items will provide for <br /> enhanced security throughout or city parks and buildings, more efficient <br /> response to traffic emergencies and participation in community policing <br /> events. <br /> ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: <br /> 94 <br />
