The objective of the investigation was to map the vertical extent of sand overlying
hardbottom as required to assist in the design of a proposed artificial reef. The survey shall was conducted using an
Edgetech Sub-Bottom Profile system operating at low frequency range (2-16 kHz) to maximize penetration into the
surface sediments, followed by diver groundtruthing. The project was conducted concurrent with the 2014 physical
beach monitoring survey with ATM for Palm Beach County.

Hardbottom Mapping Survey, Mid-Town Project Area (R-90 – R-102), Town of Palm Beach – In 2011, SDI provided a
side scan sonar survey to map the horizontal extent of exposed hardbottom within the limits of the project area
overlaying digital mosaics on the bathymetric contour charts and a sub-bottom investigation to map the
elevation of subsurface rock between the limits of exposed rock determined in the side scan sonar
survey and bathymetry from countywide surveys. Divers, equipped with steel probes and hydraulic
jetting equipment, provided ground-truthing operations by penetrating the sand to check elevations of
rock as determined from the sub-bottom profile survey. The project was completed on time and within
budget.

Siesta Key Potential Borrow Sites, Sand Search Investigation / Supplemental Cultural Resources Investigation,
Sarasota County, Florida – SDI conducted a sand source investigation of potential borrow sites off the coast of Siesta
Key in Sarasota County, Florida, encompassing 3 areas, each approximately 0.5 miles in width by 1.5 miles in length
with an approximate water depth of 30–40 feet. Field survey efforts included bathymetric surveys, magnetometer
and side scan sonar investigations, and sub-bottom (seismic) profiling in the areas selected for evaluation. Sub-
bottom profiling allowed for a determination of potential sand strata and allow for areas to be identified for further
investigation. Diver-assisted jet probes were conducted to evaluate potential sand deposits for further investigation
as borrow sources, including potential depths for Vibra-core sediment sampling. Project was conducted between
2013 and 2015 with Humiston & Moore Engineers for Sarasota County.

I.
