At H&M, their design mission statement is Restoring Beaches as Natural Coastal Systems. H&M has worked on a number of successful coastal engineering projects and are familiar with the challenges of the coastal and marine environment, with the proven expertise to meet design challenges of developing protective measures for sustainable beaches. Given the extent of the wide range of professional disciplines requested in the City, H&M will be the lead subconsultant on coastal engineering tasks.H&M brings a highly qualified in-house team specialized in addressing a variety of complex coastal engineering issues. While most coastal engineering firms in the State of Florida have experience in beach restoration, H&M also has extensive experience with the design, permitting and installation of erosion control structures to improve the life of beach fill projects or address areas of chronic erosion not effectively addressed with only sand placement. H&M has designed and permitted eleven (11) erosion control projects in Florida since 1996 involving either segmented breakwaters or low profile T-groins and breakwaters. Success in this area has in part been due to H&M’s effectively promoting greater acceptance of the functional distinction between erosion control structures versus shoreline armoring where regulations designed to govern armoring have historically been applied to both.
