City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida <br />Marine and Coastal Professional Engineering Consulting Services (CCNA) | RFQ No. 18‐02‐01 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Aptim Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc. <br />10 <br />01C032018D <br /> <br />Physical Data Collection <br />The purpose of this task is to acquire the physical data <br />on the coastal processes necessary for the design of <br />coastal protection projects. Physical data may include <br />topographic and bathymetric survey, geotechnical <br />data, wave climate and historical winds, and aerial <br />photography. This data will be used to develop the <br />design criteria that will govern the final design of the <br />project. Where possible, any previously collected data <br />and analysis will be used in lieu of new data collection <br />as a cost saving measure. <br />Due to the detailed needs of designing waterfront <br />projects for permitting and construction, updated, <br />site‐specific data collection efforts are to be <br />anticipated. APTIM has extensive field data collection <br />capabilities. Our survey group can determine the <br />scope of the required data, collect and reduce the <br />data, incorporate the data into a GIS system, and <br />apply the data in support of the project permitting and design. Employing our own field data collection <br />group allows the project managers to more closely control the scope, timing, and most importantly the <br />quality of the data collection efforts. The following is a description of how we would approach collecting <br />the various data sets: <br />Bathymetric and Topographic Surveys <br />Our surveyors have an extensive history of surveying in <br />south Florida. We also review newly collected data with <br />historic data as part of our QA/QC protocol. We own <br />and operate RTK (real time kinetic) GPS equipment, <br />which is the most efficient, accurate, and cost effective <br />surveying technique. We also ensure that there is an <br />overlap between bathymetric data collected using a <br />rover and data collected using hydrographic techniques. <br />This provides another level of data quality assurance. <br />Most waterfront structure design requires surveys <br />extending beyond wading depth. APTIM owns and <br />operates survey vessels capable of performing single <br />beam or multi‐beam bathymetric surveys. The boats are <br />also equipped with an RTK system that provides <br />centimeter level horizontal positioning accuracy and <br />when combined with our heave, pitch, and roll <br />compensator, provides excellent vertical accuracy. <br />This also avoids the need to tide correct data, resulting in efficient data reduction. Our survey crew is <br />experienced in surveying nearshore and inshore waters, borrow areas, and inlets. <br />APTIM also has extensive experience with the collection, reduction and analysis of LiDAR data. This data is <br />collected from an airplane and collects a bathymetric point at densities that can exceed one point every <br />Topographic survey of coastal structure. <br /> <br />APTIM conducts offshore biological monitoring and <br />bathymetric surveys using in‐house research vessels <br />and staff.
