City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida
Marine and Coastal Professional Engineering Consulting Services (CCNA) | RFQ No. 18‐02‐01

Aptim Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc.
13
01C032018D

Docks
APTIM has designed docking facilities for many municipalities around the State of Florida. These projects
have ranged from 150 feet of timber dock at Curtis Park in Miami (Miami‐Dade County) to replacement of
docks at a 77 slip marina at Founders Park in Islamorada (Monroe County). APTIM’s dock designs
incorporate marine‐grade products to provide durable, long‐lasting projects. APTIM also designs docks
that can be easily built by qualified marine contractors to minimize project delays and change orders.
Seawalls
APTIM designs, permits, and assists with construction administration of bulkheads and seawalls. These
projects have ranged from a 600‐foot long Intracoastal Waterway bulkhead in Delray Beach to the seawall
replacement design at the Ringling Museum in Sarasota. We designed and assisted with construction
contract administration of the Seawinds Condominium (Singer Island, Palm Beach County) where a 900‐
foot long oceanfront seawall was constructed of steel sheet piles with a drilled tie back anchor system.
Dredge/Fill
APTIM has experience in designing and evaluating cost‐effective dredge and fill projects. This includes
dredging and dredge material disposal alternatives to achieve both navigational and environmental
improvements in canal and river settings. Beach nourishment and dune restoration projects are a
specialty of APTIM’s engineers. We understand the entire process to design, permit, and monitor these
projects. We routinely develop borrow area designs for beach nourishment and navigation channel
projects where the sand quality must meet strict state‐required compatibility criteria for placement on
shore. Dredge designs consider sediment characteristics and contaminants, cultural resources,
environmentally sensitive areas, and hazards. Offshore sand sources in Miami‐Dade County have recently
been exhausted and projects have turned to upland (truck haul) sand sources. APTIM engineers routinely
visit the local mines to evaluate stockpiled material for beach compatibility for beach nourishment
projects. APTIM has an in‐house laboratory for sediment characterization, and uses an outside source for
chemical testing. Our expertise is applicable to potential projects described in the City’s RFQ.
Environmental Engineering
APTIM’s technical approach to environmental engineering was forged through years of experience as an
environmental engineering and consulting firm, and as a collaborative team member with our state and
local clients. We intend to not only accomplish the scope of services described in RFQ 18‐02‐01, but to
exceed City’s expectations in doing so. APTIM has collaborated with FDOT, FDEP, and DERM management
teams to optimize contract performance, and to efficiently meet their needs and priorities.
The technical approach to this contract requires more than just a method; it will be accomplished by a
team with the requisite knowledge and skills. APTIM’s Contract Management Team and its supporting
resources possess those skills more than any other firm does. Our combination of technical competency
with capabilities in field construction and project management makes our team unique. APTIM’s local
Environmental Engineering Management Team has a combined 50 years of local regulatory experience.
That experience includes all types and levels of various environmental engineering projects with the
practical application of complex science and engineering principles.
We stay abreast of local and national environmental regulatory issues through state activities and
through membership and active participation on several industry organizations. We also hold Miami‐Dade
County Professional Pre‐Qualifications in several environmental engineering‐related categories; further
evidence of APTIM’s technical proficiency.
