Aerial Lift Testing <br />Frequent Inspection & Test (daily — monthly intervals) <br />Inspection and tests referred to as critical in the manufacturer's manual must be strictly adhered <br />to. Any suspected items must be carefully examined and a determination made by a qualified <br />person as to whether they constitute a safety hazard. All unsafe items must be replaced or <br />repaired before use. <br />The operator shall perform the following tests and inspections once daily, prior to first use: <br />❑ Operating controls and associated mechanisms for conditions interfering with proper <br />operation <br />❑ Visual and audible safety devices for malfunction <br />❑ Hydraulic or pneumatic systems for observable deterioration or excessive leakage <br />❑ Fiberglass and other insulating components for visible damage or contamination <br />o Missing or illegible operational markings <br />❑ Electrical apparatus for malfunction, signs or excessive deterioration, dirt, and moisture <br />accumulation <br />Periodic Inspection and Test (1-12 month intervals) <br />An inspection of the mobile unit must be performed at six to twelve-month intervals, depending <br />upon its activity, severity of service, and environment or as specifically indicated below. This <br />inspection needs to include all the items from the frequent inspection list, plus: <br />❑ Structural members for deformation, cracks or corrosion <br />❑ Parts, such as pins, bearings, shafts, gears, rollers, locking devices, chains, chain sprockets, <br />wire ropes, and sheaves for wear, cracks or distortion <br />❑ Hydraulic and pneumatic relief valve settings <br />Li Hydraulic system for proper oil level <br />o Hydraulic and pneumatic fittings, hoses, and tubing for evidence of leakage, abnormal <br />deformation, or excessive abrasion <br />❑ Compressors, pumps, motors and generators for loose fasteners, leaks, unusual noises or <br />vibrations, loss of operating speed, and excessive heating <br />❑ Hydraulic and pneumatic valves for malfunction and visible cracks in the external valve <br />housing, leaks, and sticking spools <br />❑ Hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders and holding valves for malfunction and visible damage <br />❑ Hydraulic and pneumatic filters for cleanliness and the presence of foreign material in the <br />system indicating other component deterioration <br />❑ Electrical systems and components for deterioration or wear including those not readily <br />visible on a frequent inspection <br />❑ Performance test of all boom movements <br />❑ Condition and tightness of bolts and other fasteners <br />❑ Welds, as specified by the manufacturer <br />❑ Legible and proper markings of controls, ratings, and instructions <br />❑ Any suspected items shall be carefully examined and a determination in de by a qualified <br />person as to whether they constitute a safety hazard. All unsafe items shall be replaced or <br />repaired before use. <br />24 <br />
