1 <br /> 1 SECTION 01505 <br /> CONTROL OF WORK <br /> 1.01 QUALITY OF WORK <br /> 1 A. The Contractor shall furnish personnel and equipment which will be efficient, <br /> appropriate and large enough to secure a satisfactory quality of work and a rate of <br /> progress which will insure the completion of the work within the time stipulated in <br /> the Proposal. If at any time such personnel appear to the Engineer to be <br /> inefficient, inappropriate or insufficient for securing the quality of work required or <br /> for producing the rate of progress aforesaid, he may order the Contractor to <br /> increase the efficiency, change the character or increase the personnel and <br /> equipment, and the Contractor shall conform to such order. Failure of the <br /> Engineer to give such order shall in no way relieve the Contractor of his obligations <br /> to secure the quality of the work and rate of progress required. <br /> 1.02 OBSTRUCTIONS <br /> A. The attention of the Contractor is drawn to the fact that during digging at the <br /> ' Project site, the possibility exists of the Contractor encountering various water, <br /> sewer, petroleum, gas, telephone, electrical, or other lines not shown on the <br /> Drawings. The Contractor shall exercise extreme care before and during digging <br /> 1 to locate and flag these pipes so as to avoid damage to the existing pipes. Should <br /> damage occur to an existing pipe, The Contractor shall repair the pipe at no cost to <br /> the City. <br /> B. The Contractor shall protect all existing utilities and improvements not designated <br /> for removal and shall restore damaged or temporarily relocated utilities and <br /> improvements to a condition equal to or better than they were prior to such <br /> damage or temporary relocation, all in accordance with requirements of the <br /> Contract Documents. <br /> C. The Contractor shall verify the exact locations and depths of all utilities shown and <br /> the Contractor shall make exploratory excavations of all utilities that may interfere <br /> with the work. All such exploratory excavations shall be performed as soon a <br /> practicable after award of the contract and, in any event, a sufficient time in <br /> advance of construction to avoid possible delays to the Contractor's work. When <br /> such exploratory excavations show the utility location as shown to be in error, the <br /> Contractor shall so notify the Engineer. <br /> D. The number of exploratory excavations required should be that number which is <br /> sufficient to determine the alignment and grade of the utility. Test pits shall be dug <br /> at the Contractor's expense, as directed. <br /> E. The Contractor shall protect all Underground Utilities and other improvements that <br /> may be impaired during construction operations. It shall be the Contractor's <br /> responsibility to ascertain the actual location of all existing utilities and other <br /> 1 improvements that will be encountered in its construction operations, and to see <br /> that such utilities or other improvements are adequately protected from damage <br /> 05/08 01505-1 05-4893 <br />
