I <br /> SECTION 02100 <br /> SITE PREPARATION <br /> PART 1 - GENERAL <br /> 1.01 SCOPE OF WORK <br /> 1 A. This Section covers clearing and grubbing of the construction site as specified <br /> herein. <br /> 1 B. Clear and grub the area within the limits of construction as required. The <br /> ENGINEER shall establish the length and width of the area to be cleared and <br /> grubbed prior to the beginning of any work. <br /> PART 2 - PRODUCTS (Not Used) <br /> PART 3 - EXECUTION <br /> 3.01 CLEARING <br /> A. The surface of the ground for the area to be cleared and grubbed shall be <br /> completely cleared, as indicated on the plans, as well other objectionable <br /> obstructions resting on or protruding through the surface of the ground. However, <br /> those trees that are designated on the plans to remain shall be preserved as <br /> hereinafter specified. Clearing operations shall be conducted so as to prevent <br /> damage to existing structures and installations, and to those under construction, so <br /> as to provide for the safety of employees and others. Clearing for structures shall <br /> consist of topsoil, vegetation and lime sludge removal. <br /> 3.02 GRUBBING <br /> A. Grubbing shall consist of the complete removal of all stumps, roots larger than 1 <br /> 1/2 inches in diameter, matted roots, brush, timber, logs and any other organic or <br /> metallic debris resting on, under or protruding through the surface of the ground to <br /> a depth of 18 inches below the subgrade. All depressions excavated below the <br /> original ground surface for or by the removal of such objects, shall be refilled with <br /> suitable materials and compacted to a density conforming to the surrounding <br /> ground surface. <br /> B. In areas so designated, top soil, not muck shall be stockpiled. Topsoil so <br /> stockpiled shall be protected until it is placed as specified. Any topsoil remaining <br /> 1 after all work is in place shall be disposed of by the Contractor in the manner <br /> specified in Section 02221. <br /> 3.04 DISPOSAL OF CLEARED AND GRUBBED MATERIAL <br /> A. The Contractor shall dispose of all material and debris from the clearing and <br /> grubbing operation by shipping such material and debris and disposing such <br /> material to a suitable location as required by the Engineer or the governmental <br /> 05/08 02100-1 05-4893 <br />
