1 <br /> SECTION 02221 <br /> TRENCHING, BEDDING, AND BACKFILL FOR PIPE <br /> PART 1 - GENERAL <br /> 1.01 WORK INCLUDED <br /> A. Furnish labor, materials, equipment, and incidentals necessary to perform all <br /> excavation, backfill, fill, grading and slope protection required to complete the <br /> piping work shown on the Drawings and specified herein. The work shall <br /> include, but not necessarily be limited to: catch basins, manholes, vaults, duct <br /> conduit, pipe, and roadways and paving; all bedding, backfilling, fill and required <br /> borrow; grading and disposal of surplus and unsuitable materials; and all related <br /> work such as sheeting, bracing and water handling. <br /> 1.02 RELATED WORK <br /> A. Section 02100: Site Preparation <br /> 1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE <br /> A. Codes and Standards: Perform excavation work in compliance with applicable <br /> requirements of governing authorities having jurisdiction. <br /> 1.04 JOB CONDITIONS <br /> A. The Contractor shall examine the site and review the available test borings or <br /> undertake his own soil borings prior to submitting his bid, taking into <br /> consideration all conditions that may affect his work. The Owner and Engineer <br /> will not assume responsibility for variations of sub-soil quality or conditions at <br /> locations other than places shown and at the time the investigation was made. <br /> Boring log data is included in this section. <br /> B. Existing Utilities: Locate existing underground utilities in the areas of work. If <br /> utilities are to remain in place, provide adequate means of protection during <br /> earthwork operations. <br /> 1. Should uncharted, or incorrectly charted, piping or other utilities be <br /> encountered during excavation, consult the Engineer and the Owner of <br /> such piping or utility immediately for directions. <br /> 2. Cooperate with Owner and utility companies in keeping respective <br /> services and facilities in operation. Repair damaged utilities to <br /> satisfaction of utility owner. <br /> 3.
