ticHEWETT-KIER CONSTRUCTION, INC. GENERAL CONTRACTORS
Near Critical Activity Schedule
Typically, the schedule is filtered so that only those activities with five (5) days or less of float are
reported. This enables Hewett-Kier Construction,Inc. to focus on those activities which are the most
critical and have the most potential to delay the project. When negative float activities occur, they
are addressed and appropriate action is taken to avoid delays to the overall project.
Three-week Lookahead Schedule
On a weekly basis, the project manager or project superintendent updates the schedule and provides
a report as to the work to be performed over the following three weeks. This schedule, which is also
printed by responsibility code, is presented by the project superintendent or project manager at the
weekly coordination meeting so that the work to be performed over the immediate twenty-one day
period can be addressed, coordinated and any problem areas resolved. By weekly focus on the next
twenty-one day work period, Hewett-Kier Construction, Inc. maintains maximum control over the
schedule and the work to be performed.
Schedule Control
Hewett-Kier Construction, Inc. installs scheduling software on each jobsite where it is updated and
analyzed weekly to be utilized as stated above. The weekly updates and analysis ensures reflection
of the actual progress in the field. Although the initial schedule is well planned, changes often occur
as the work progresses. It is imperative that the schedule reflect the way the project is being built
and, by predicting an accurate course of events, Hewett-Kier Construction, Inc. can depend on its
schedule to identify any delays as well as the effects of any anticipated change to the project.
Hewett-Kier Construction, Inc. feels that the significance of the onsite weekly update and utilization
of the Near Critical and Three-Week Lookahead Schedules in the weekly coordination meetings,
cannot be overemphasized as a vital tool so that the project team can rely on the schedule.
Reference projects where the proposed scheduling control system is currently being utilized are:
1.
