FUNDRAISING EVENT, FEAST OF THE SENSES, WITH IN -KIND SUPPORT IN AN ESTINIATED AMOUNT OF ELEVEN THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED THIRTY -FIVE DOLLARS AND FIFTY CENTS (S11,935.50); APPROVING A DONATION OF TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS (SI0,000.00) TO THE KIWANIS FOUNDATION FOR THE EVENT; AUTHORIZING THE CITY NIANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION: PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is committed to participating and informing its residents of cultural events and activities taking place in and around our community; and WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Foundation of North Dade. Inc. and Sunny Isles Beach is dedicated to raising funds to benefit the children of the Sunny Isles Beach community: and WHEREAS, "Feast of the Senses" is a ticketed special event that offers event attendees tastings of sample fare from local restaurants while enjoying quality music and both live and silent auctions of fine collectible art: and WHEREAS, this event will be hosted in the gymnasium at Pelican Community Park on Sunday- \9arch 2. 2014: and WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is dedicated to supporting this event with an in -kind donation of free use of the facility. City equipment and supplies. as well as City personnel to assist in the production and security of the event. in an estimated amount of Eleven Thousand Nine Hundred Thirty -Five Dollars and Fifty Cents (511,935.50): and WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach also desires to make a donation of Ten Thousand Dollars (510,000.00) to the Kiwanis Foundation of North Dade. Inc. for this event to cover other out -of- pocket expenses. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY CONIMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval of Donations. The City Commission hereby approves the donations of in -kind support of free use of the gymnasium located at Pelican Community Park. City equipment and supplies. and City personnel assisting in the production and security of the "Feast of the Senses" event on Sunday. March 2. 2014, in an estimated amount of Eleven Thousand Nine Hundred Thirty -Five Dollars and Fifty Cents (SI 1.935.50), and for the monetary donation of Ten Thousand Dollars (S10,000.00) to the Kiwanis Foundation of North Dade. Susan Simpson, Cultural & Community Services Director DATE: 12/19/2013 RE: In -Kind and Monetary Donation to Kiwanis Club for the Feast of the Senses Event RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached resolution to support the Kiwanis fundraising event, Feast of the Senses, with in -kind support in an estimated amount of Eleven Thousand Two Hundred Thirty -Five Dollars and Fifty Cents ($11,235.50), and a monetary donation to cover other out -of- pocket expenses in the amount of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00). REASONS: Kiwanis Club of North Miami Beach & Sunny Isles Beach is dedicated to raising funds to benefit the children of the Sunny Isles Beach community. Feast of the Senses is a ticketed special event that offers event attendees tastings of sample fare from local restaurants and sample sized wine tastings while enjoying quality music and both live and silent auctions of fine collectible art. It is proposed that this event be hosted in the gymnasium at Pelican Community Park on Sunday, March 2, 2014. The City is dedicated to supporting this event with an in -kind donation of free use of the facility, city equipment and supplies, as well as city personnel to assist in the production and security of the event. The estimated costs is based on the request by Kiwanis. Once approved, notice will be posted to all Community Center members regarding the closure of the gymnasium and the rescheduled date of all programs. FUNDING SOURCE: Personnel costs will be covered via the Regular Salaries and /or Overtime account of the respective departments; Cultural & Community Services and Police.
