A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, PROVIDING IN -KIND SUPPORT
TO THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY 2014 "RELAY FOR LIFE"
EVENT ON MAY 16 -17, 2014 AT HERITAGE PARK, IN AN
ESTIMATED AMOUNT OF TWO THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED
THIRTY DOLLARS (52,130.00); AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE
THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society is dedicated to educating our community
about early detection and prevention of cancer, and
WHEREAS, the "Relay for Life" event is the American Cancer Society's signature
activity that raises funds to support patient services, research, education, and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, the 2014 Relay for Life of Sunny Isles Beach/Aventura will take place at
Heritage Park beginning on Friday, May 16. 2014 and ending on Saturday. May 17, 2014, and
WHEREAS, the City wishes to provide in -kind support to the American Cancer Society
for free use of Heritage Park for the "Relay of Life" event, in an estimated amount of Two
Thousand One Hundred Thirty Dollars ($2,130.00).
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Approval of Donation. The City Commission hereby approves the donation of in-
kind support of free use of Heritage Park for the "Relay of Life" event beginning on Friday. May
16, 2014 and ending on Saturday, May 17. 2014, in an estimated amount of Two Thousand One
Hundred Thirty Dollars ($2,130.00), to the American Cancer Society for this event.
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 20t" day of February 2014.

I am writing to request your support of Relay For Life of Sunny Isles/Aventura, the American Cancer Society's
Signature event, an overnight celebration of hope, progress and answers. Relay For Life is a unique event that
raises community awareness of prevention and detection of cancer and of services for those currently battling the
disease, while raising much - needed funds in the fight for the cure. Relay For Life takes place in more than 5,200
communities across the United States, including 365 in Florida.
In preparation for the relay, we would like to request from the City of Sunny Isles to underwrite the cost for the
use of Heritage Park to host the Relay For Life event on Friday, May 16`h to May 17`h, 2014. We are hoping to
garner as much support from the community as possible to the Relay For Life event a great success.
Please note that ALL donations are tax deductible.

MEMORANDUM

RE: In -Kind Support for the Relay For Life Event in Sunny Isles Beach
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached resolution to
provide In -Kind Support to the American Cancer Society for a Relay for Life
Event in Sunny Isles Beach. The estimated In -Kind value of this request is Two
Thousand, One Hundred, Thirty Dollars ($2,130.00).
REASONS:
The American Cancer Society plans to host a Relay For Life fundraising and
awareness event in Sunny Isles Beach as they have endeavored to do in 2011
and 2012. They are requesting free use of Heritage Park for this event to be
hosted starting on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. and ending on Saturday,
May 17, 2014 at 6:00 a.m. (12 hours).
This overnight use will require some staff hours to maintain the restrooms and be
available for any maintenance needs that may arise during the event. These
personnel costs are included in the In -Kind Donation request as per the attached
spreadsheet.
FUNDING SOURCE:
The personnel costs will be expensed to the Parks Personnel Services budget.
