HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2014-2200RESOLUTION NO. 2014 - 'Z;2 QO A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING A DONATION OF ONE HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($150,000.00) FROM THE DEZER FAMILY FOR A COMPLETE PLAYGROUND AT INTRACOASTAL PARK TO BE NAMED " DEZER FAMILY PLAYGROUND"; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Intracoastal Park, a linear park south of Sunny Isles Boulevard, is designed to be a small neighborhood park for the residents of the south end of Sunny Isles Beach; and WHEREAS, the Dezer Family, developers of several condominium towers in Sunny Isles Beach. recognizes the need for community parks for the residents enjoyment, and have offered to partner with the City by donating the playground to this new park; and WHEREAS, the Dezer Family wishes to donate to the City One Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($150,000.00) from the Dezer Family Foundation at the Jewish Communal Fund through the Sunny Isles Beach School Trust Fund, for a complete playground at Intracoastal Park, and in honor of their generous donation, the playground will be named the "Dezer Family Playground "; and WHEREAS, the City exercises its authority to accept donations as a non -profit municipal corporation. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT: Section 1. Approval of Accepting the Donation and Naming the Playground. The City Commission hereby approves accepting the donation of One Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars $150,000.00) from the Dezer Family through the Dezer Family Foundation at the Jewish Communal Fund for a complete playground at Intracoastal Park to be named "Dezer Family Playground ". Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. Russo, City Manager FROM: Susan Simpson, Cultural and Community Services Director DATE: 2/20/2014 RE: Donation and Naming of Playground at Intracoastal Park RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached resolution to accept a donation of a fully equipped playground at Intracoastal Park from the Dezer Family in the amount of One Hundred, Fifty Thousand Dollars ($150,000) which would include naming the playground, the Dezer Family Playground. REASONS: Intracoastal Park, a linear park south of Sunny Isles Blvd., is designed to be a small neighborhood park for the residents of the south end of Sunny Isles Beach. The Dezer Family, developers of several condominium towers in Sunny Isles Beach, recognizes the need for community parks for the residents enjoyment. They have offered to partner with the City by donating the playground to this new park. In honor of their generous donation, the playground will be named the Dezer Family Playground. The Dezer Family Playground will be located on the south end of the park. It will include a shade cover, play equipment and safety surfacing.
