HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2019-2931 RESOLUTION NO. 2019- 2/31 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR FLORIDA SENATE BILL 610 AND FLORIDA HOUSE BILL 1259 WHICH WOULD REVISE AND STRENGTHEN CRIMINAL PENALTIES RELATING TO VIOLATIONS FOR CONDOMINIUM ASSOCIATIONS; URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE AND GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS TO SUPPORT AND APPROVE THE LEGISLATION; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO DISTRIBUTE COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Senator Jason Pizzo has filed Senate Bill 610 for consideration by the Florida Legislature, and House Representative Javier E. Fernandez has filed House Bill 1259 which would amend Chapter 718 of the Florida Statutes,which regulates Condominium Associations in the State of Florida; and WHEREAS, these two (2) bills would revise and strengthen criminal penalties relating to the acceptance of things or services of value or kickbacks, violations relating to official association records, and fraudulent voting activities related to association elections; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of condominium owners and residents throughout the State of Florida for the Florida Legislature to adopt proposed Senate Bill 610 and House Bill 1259. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Recitals. The foregoing"WHEREAS" clauses are hereby ratified and incorporated herein. Section 2. Support for Senate Bill 610 and House Bill 1259. The City Commission hereby expresses support for Senate Bill 610 and House Bill 1259 and urges the Florida Legislature to adopt and Governor Ron DeSantis to support and approve said bills. Section 3. Directions to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to distribute copies of this Resolution to Senator Jason Pizzo and House Representative Javier E. Fernandez, Governor Ron DeSantis, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, the President of the Florida Senate, the Florida League of Cities, and the Miami-Dade County League of Cities. Section 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. PASSED and ADOPTED this 21' day of March 2019.
