A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY
ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR SENATE BILL
182 WHICH WOULD REPEAL THE PREEMPTION OF LOCAL LAWS
REGARDING THE USE OR SALE OF POLYSTYRENE PRODUCTS;
URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE AND GOVERNOR RON
DESANTIS TO SUPPORT AND APPROVE THE LEGISLATION;
DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO DISTRIBUTE COPIES OF THIS
RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Senator Linda Stewart has filed Senate Bill 182 for consideration by the
Florida Legislature which repeals the preemption of local laws regarding the use or sale of
polystyrene products; and
WHEREAS,the City Commission believes that environmental issues of this nature should
be determined locally, in accordance with the City's home rule authority; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of residents and visitors of the City, and of the State
of Florida, to adopt Senate Bill 182.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Support of Senate Bill 182. The City Commission hereby expresses support for
Senate Bill 182 and urges the Florida Legislature to adopt, and Governor Ron DeSantis to support
and approve the bill.
Section 2. Direction to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to distribute copies
of this Resolution to Senator Linda Stewart, Governor Ron DeSantis, the Speaker of the Florida
House of Representatives, the President of the Florida Senate, the Florida League of Cities, and
the Miami-Dade League of Cities.
Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
