WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach Community Shuttle Bus program provides service to residents and visitors seven (7) days per week and desires to add to the City's fleet an additional shuttle bus to provide effective and efficient service to our residents; and WHEREAS, Atlantic Bus Sales has submitted a quote for a 2020 Eldorado Aeroelite Shuttle Bus, that will seat twenty-four (24) passengers plus two wheelchair stations, and it is equipped with a wheelchair door and step wells, in an amount not to exceed One Hundred Fifty - Five thousand Six Hundred Thirty -One Dollars ($155,631.00), through a HGAC Buy, an Interlocal Contract for Cooperative Purchasing; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to purchase the bus from Atlantic Bus Sales, in an amount not to exceed One Hundred Sixty Thousand Six Hundred Thirty -One Dollars ($160,631.00), which includes a contingency in an amount not to exceed Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) for any unforeseen expenses related to the bus and equipment, attached hereto as Exhibit "A". NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Authorization of Purchase. The City Commission hereby authorizes the purchase of one (1) shuttle bus from Atlantic Bus Sales, in an amount not to exceed One Hundred Sixty Thousand Six Hundred Thirty -One Dollars ($160,631.00), which includes a contingency in an amount not to exceed Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) for any unforeseen expenses related to the bus and equipment, attached hereto as Exhibit "A". Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. RECOMMENDATION: This Resolution is presented for your consideration REASONS: The City offers free shuttle service to the community 7 days a week, through three different lines. In addition, we offer transportation to Mount Sinai several days a week (outside of the regular shuttle service) and transportation for various events and activities (such as Cultural Event trips, movie nights, concerts, etc.). In order to meet the needs of the shuttle routes, as well as these additional services, and minimize any breaks in service due to bus maintenance, it is recommended that we maintain a fleet of five (5) reliable shuttle buses. Shuttle Bus #1225 (currently in our fleet) was purchased in 2012, and is reaching the end of its useful life span (typically 7 years). This new bus would allow for us to take Bus #1225 out of circulation. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The quote includes a driver protection system, for safety concerns. With the purchase of this new bus, our fleet would consist of six (6) total buses, only one (1) of which would be greater than 4 years old. The total cost of the shuttle bus is $160,631.00, which includes a contingency in an amount not to exceed $5,000.00 for any unforeseen expenses related to the bus and equipment. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds were budgeted in fiscal year 19/20 and were not expended as a result of delays due to COVID. This will require a budget amendment to move the unused funds into this fiscal year.
