A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF
THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT
AND BOARD'S RECOMMENDATION TO PRIORITIZE
VACCINATIONS FOR ALL SCHOOL BASED STAFF IN ORDER TO
PROTECT THE HEALTH OF SCHOOL EMPLOYEES, GRADE SCHOOL
CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the lives of all members and aspects
of society, with an especially devastating effect on the ability to maintain a stable school
educational system; and
WHEREAS, the ability to continue in-person education of our youth has been severely
hampered by the spread of the coronavirus, as it has resulted in school shutdowns and inconsistent
attendance; and
WHEREAS, remote schooling is often unavailable or severely limited for those families
that lack the resources to continue their children's education at home; and
WHEREAS, in order to ensure that schools can safely remain open and be well attended,
without teachers, students and their families being in fear of contracting the potentially
disabling and deadly coronavirus, "front-line" school employees (teachers, administrators and
staff with direct student contact) need to have priority for vaccinations; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach supports the Miami -
Dade County School Superintendent and Board's efforts to have its personnel with direct student
contact be considered among the highest priority vaccine recipients so that they may receive
priority for vaccinations for coronavirus.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Incorporation of Recitals. The foregoing recital paragraphs are hereby ratified and
confirmed as being true and the same are hereby made part of this Resolution.
Section 2. Support of Priority Vaccinations for School Personnel. The City Commission
hereby fully supports the Miami Dade School Board and its Superintendent of Schools, Alberto
Carvalho's efforts to have personnel with direct student contact be considered among the highest
priority vaccine recipients and receive priority status in receiving vaccination in order to prevent
contracting and spreading the coronavirus.
Section 3. Directions to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to distribute copies
of this Resolution to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida State Surgeon General Scott A.
Rivkees, M.D., and the Miami Dade School Board.
Section 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.

FOR COVID-19 VACCINATIONS
GIVEN IN FLORIDA
WHEREAS, Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a severe acute
respiratory illness that presents with symptoms similar to those of influenza; and
WHEREAS, on March 1, 2020, I declared a Public Health Emergency exists in
the State of Florida as a result of COVID-19; and
WHEREAS, on December 23, 2020, Governor DeSantis issued. ExeputjveOOrder
20-315, which remains in effect and which limits the populations to whom providers in
Florida may administer the COVID-19 vaccine; and.
WHEREAS, the COVID-19 vaccine remains scarce within the United States and
vaccine availability in Florida is extremely limited.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Scott A. Rivkees, M.D., as State Surgeon General and
State Health Officer, determine that a public health advisory is necessary to protect
public health and safety, and hereby issue the following public health advisory:
PRIORITIZATION OF FLORIDIANS FOR COVID-19 VACCINE IN FLORIDA
Prior to providing the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to the intended
recipient, every vaccine provider in Florida should ensure the recipient of the vaccine is
either:
1) a resident of the State of Florida able to demonstrate residency consistent with
the criteria set forth in § 381.986(5)(b), Fla. Stat.; or
