Express Support for Senate Bill 334 and House Bill 229
RE:
Allowing Local Governments to Regulate Smoking in
Parks and Beaches
RECOMMENDATION:
This Resolution is presented for your consideration.
REASONS:
Florida State Senator Joe Gruters and House Representative Thad
Altman have filed Senate Bill 334 and the companion House Bill 229,
respectively, for consideration by the Florida Legislature which would
allow local governments to regulate smoking in public parks and
beaches. As a local government, we believe that the decision of
whether smoking should be allowed in city parks and beaches is most
appropriately determined at the local level.
