Home My WebLink AboutReso 2014-2243RESOLUTION NO. 2014- 2- 3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING A CONTRIBUTION IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00) TO SPONSOR THE 2014 SOUTH FLORIDA DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL ON OCTOBER 4, 2014 AT HAULOVER PARK; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach has a tradition of participating and assisting in various programs of interest and benefit to its residents and visitors; and WHEREAS, the United Chinese Association of Florida is hosting the 2014 South Florida Dragon Boat Festival at Haulover Park; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to strengthen the relationship with their Sister City, Hengchun, Taiwan, and bring awareness of the Chinese culture to our residents and visitors; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to sponsor the event on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Haulover Park, by contributing at the Gold level sponsorship in an amount not to exceed Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00). NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval of Contribution. The City Commission hereby approves a contribution in an amount not to exceed Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) to sponsor the 2014 South Florida Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Haulover Park. Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. REASONS: The South Florida Dragon Boat Festival is held each year at Haulover Park. Their Gold level sponsorship package of $5,000.00 provides an international marketing opportunity for the City while supporting a local event that brings together the South Florida community for a unique cultural experience.
