A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO
PARTICIPATE IN THE "PRESTIGE CULTURAL SERIES AT
BISCAYNE BAY CAMPUS 2014 - 2015" PROGRAM; AUTHORIZING A
CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE BISCAYNE BAY CAMPUS OF
FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (FIU), IN THE AMOUNT
OF FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00), AND A PERFORMANCE
DONATION TO THE FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY
SCHOOL OF MUSIC, IN THE AMOUNT OF FIFTEEN THOUSAND
DOLLARS ($15,000.00); AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO
ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION:
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is committed in participating and informing
its residents of cultural events and activities taking place in and around our community; and
WHEREAS, in partnership with Florida International University (FIU), the Prestige
Cultural Series program provides four (4) culturally rich events for the community at an
affordable price; and
WHEREAS, these programs benefit the students and programs on the Biscayne Bay
Campus (BBC), through the BBC Excellence Fund and the FIU School of Music; and
WHEREAS, additionally, through student and faculty performances, FIU will bring four
(4) programs directly to Sunny Isles Beach through the City's Four Seasons Cultural Series
providing opportunities for students to gain more performance experience and City residents are
offered quality shows for free with a nominal fee for non - residents; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to partner with FIU as a sponsor to present the
"Prestige Cultural Series at Biscayne Bay Campus 2014 - 2015" in the donation amount of Five
Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) as well as a Performance Donation to FIU School of Music in the
amount of Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000.00) for four (4) performances in Sunny Isles
Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section It Approval of Partnership. The City Commission hereby approves the partnership
between the City and Florida International University (FIU).
Section 2. Authority of City Manager. The City Commission directs the City Manager to do
all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution, which includes but is not limited to donating
Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) to Biscayne Bay Campus of FIU for the "Prestige Cultural

Series at Biscayne Bay Campus 2014 - 2015 ", and a Performance Donation to the FIU School of
Music in the amount of Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000.00).
Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.

Featuring Musicians of Florida International University's
School of Music and Classic Films
In partnership with the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Bal Harbour Village, the Town
of Golden Beach, area businesses, and individual sponsors, we present the following
series of events to engage our community in outstanding cultural experiences in the
educational setting of the Biscayne Bay Campus.
The Prestige Cultural Series will include four events: 1) A Band Concert hosted by
the City of Sunny Isles Beach; 2) and 3) will be Dinner and a Classic Film; and, 4)
A Jazz Vocal Concert

We continue to offer quality public education to over 8,000 students on the Biscayne Bay Campus,
many living within a 10 mile radius of the campus. We also have many other amenities available
to our community neighbors — an extensive research library, recreation by the bay, lifelong learning
classes, beautiful bike paths, and engaging lecturers and speakers.
We, therefore, respectfully request $5000 in support of the
Prestige Cultural Series — 2014 -2015.
Together we will provide a much needed service to our communities — quality cultural activities
and experiences at an affordable price. All net proceeds will benefit the students and programs on
the Biscayne Bay Campus, through our BBC Excellence Fund, and our School of Music.
The City of Sunny Isles Beach will be included on all literature that is used for ticket sales and
promotion of all events. You will be the Presenting Sponsor of the October 12th, FIUBand
Concert to be held in Heritage Park. Your sponsorship will enable any resident of Sunny Isles
Beach to attend all other events at a discounted price.
Thank you for your ongoing support for 5 years!! We appreciate our partnership with you, the
City of Sunny Isles Beach, and FIU's Biscayne Bay Campus.

RE: Partnership in the Prestige Cultural Series 2014 -2015 with Florida
International University and Performance Donation to the Florida

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached resolution to
partner with Florida International University (FIU) as a sponsor to present the
"Prestige Cultural Series at Biscayne Bay Campus 2014 - 2015" in the donation
amount of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000) as well as a Performance Donation to
Florida International University (FIU) School of Music in the amount of Fifteen
Thousand Dollars ($15,000) for four performances in Sunny Isles Beach.

In partnership with FIU, the Prestige Cultural Series program provides 4 culturally

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
As the City is the title sponsor of the FIU Prestige Cultural Series, Sunny Isles
Beach residents will receive discounted prices to all of the events in the Prestige
Cultural Series. The Performance Donation amount of $15,000 is funded by the
City's Special Events budget that is designated for hiring entertainment.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding for the Prestige Cultural Series is available in the General Fund in the
Commission's budget account number 10.511.5490. Funding for the FIU
Performance Donation in the amount of $15,000 is available in the General Fund
account number 10.572.5574 Special Events.
