A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH,
FLORIDA, APPROVING THE SELECTION OF MEMBERS TO THE ENVIRONMENT
SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2022;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Section 74-8 of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Sunny Isles Beach
("City") provides that there shall be as many standing committees of the City Commission as
the Mayor or City Commission deems necessary and that the City Commission may establish or
terminate such Committees from time to time; and
WHEREAS, in January of 2022, the City Commission created a new advisory committee
entitled the "Environment Sustainability Advisory Committee" ("ESAC" or the "Committee");
and
WHEREAS, the ESAC is responsible for providing guidance and recommendations
regarding the City's efforts to provide and promote general environmental improvement
trends, green initiatives, and sustainable development, defined as a pattern of resource use
that aims to meet community needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can
be met, not only in the present, but in the indefinite future; and
WHEREAS, the Committee shall be composed of seven (7) members who shall be
appointed for a one-year term, and which may be renewed by the City Commission as often as
desirable; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor shall appoint the Chairperson and one member, the Vice Mayor
appoints two members, and the remaining members of the City Commission shall appoint one
member each. The Vice Chairperson shall be selected by majority vote of the members of the
Committee; and
WHEREAS, Committee members shall be governed by the Rules of Procedure that
govern the City Commission, the Florida Sunshine and Public Records Laws, and the terms of
this Resolution; and
WHEREAS, City residents interested in serving on the Committee have submitted board
applications for the Commission's consideration.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY
ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Incorporation of Recitals. The foregoing recital paragraphs are hereby ratified
and confirmed as being true and the same are hereby made part of this Resolution.
Section 2. Appointment of Committee Members. The Mayor shall appoint the Chairperson,
the members of the City Commission shall each appoint one member to the Committee, and

Additionally, a member of the Committee forfeits his or her right to serve on the Committee if
such member fails to comply with the requirements of the City Code, County Code and state
law for serving on the Committee. The City Manager or designee shall create an application
process for the selection of Committee members. The City Commission shall appoint applicants
from the application process created by the City Manager or designee. Additionally:
(a) Should any appointee resign during the term of the Committee, the Commission,
by majority vote, shall select another appointee.
(b) Members shall be appointed to serve for a one-year (1) term, but that term may
be renewed as often as desirable.
(c) Attendance Policy: The City's attendance policy for members of boards and
committees provide that, if a member fails to attend three (3) duly noticed
meetings of such groups without being excused for good cause, the member
may be removed from his or her seat automatically. A board member or
committee member may not be removed from his or her seat unless the City
Clerk certifies that the member has failed to attend three (3) duly noticed
meetings. Committee duly noticed meetings of the board and committees
include regular scheduled meetings and any special meetings. The City
Commission finds that personal illness, family emergencies, military absences,
family weddings, family graduation exercises, and bona fide business and
vacation trips constitute good cause for nonattendance at a duly noticed
meeting.
