HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2022-3283RESOLUTION NO. 2022 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING AN IN-KIND DONATION TO THE NORTH MIAMI BEACH LITTLE LEAGUE IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($10,000.00) FOR USE OF THE CHIEF FRED MAAS BASEBALL FIELD TO PROVIDE A RECREATIONAL BASEBALL PROGRAM FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2022; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION: PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City") is committed to providing a variety of quality recreational opportunities to our community; and WHEREAS, North Miami Beach Little League is a non-profit organization that provides a youth baseball program to the residents of the City; and WHEREAS, the City relies upon the North Miami Beach Little League for its resident to participate in youth baseball because there are an insufficient number of resident participants for the City to operate its own league; and WHEREAS, the North Miami Beach Little League and the City are dedicated to activities that benefit the children of the Sunny Isles Beach community; and WHEREAS, the North Miami Beach Little League organization has requested use of the Chief Fred Maas Baseball Field to provide a recreational baseball program including the annual Challenger Program which is a short off-season baseball program that provides the opportunity for disabled players to partner with volunteer players to play baseball in a fun and safe environment, including City residents; and WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is dedicated to supporting these activities with an in-kind donation for the use of the field, as well as City personnel to assist in these sport activities, in an amount not to exceed Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00) based on their requested schedule for calendar year 2022. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval of Donation. The City Commission hereby approves the in-kind donation to the North Miami Beach Little League for use of the Chief Fred Maas Baseball Field located at Pelican Community Park, and City personnel assisting in these sport activities, in an amount not to exceed Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00) based on their requested schedule for calendar year 2022. Section 2. Authority of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. @BCL@CCOC798A.doc Page 1 of 2 60 Section 3. Effective Date. REASONS: The North Miami Beach Little League provides a quality baseball program for children of Sunny Isle Beach, as well as the surrounding communities. In order to keep enrollment costs low for the participants, the program relies on volunteer coaches and staff, as well as field -use donations from participating areas. The City wishes to continue this relationship with an in-kind donation by way of rental fees waived for use of the Chief Fred Maas Baseball field at Pelican Community Park for calendar year 2022. Based on the requested days and times, the rental fees waived would be for an amount not to exceed ten thousand dollars ($10,000). FUNDING SOURCE: There is no direct funding needed for this item, other than personnel time to perform regular on-going maintenance of field, due to general use.
