A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH,
FLORIDA, APPROVING APPOINTMENTS TO THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION
BOARD FOR CALENDAR YEARS 2022 AND 2023; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, Chapter 171 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Sunny Isles Beach
("City") creates a Historic Preservation Board (the "Board"), which is vested with power,
authority and jurisdiction to designate, regulate and administer historical, cultural,
archeological and architectural resources in the City, subject to the consent of the City
Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Board provides recommendations to the City Commission regarding the
designation of historic properties within the boundaries of the City; and
WHEREAS, Board members are appointed for a two-year term; and
WHEREAS, each member of the Commission shall appoint one member, with the
Mayor's appointee to serve as the Chairperson, and the other two (2) appointments to be
appointed at -large, for a total of seven (7) members; and
WHEREAS, Board members shall be governed by the Rules of Procedure that govern the
City Commission, the Florida Sunshine and Public Records Laws, and the terms of this
Resolution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Appointment of Board Members. Each member of the Commission shall
appoint one member, with the Mayor's appointee to serve as the Chairperson, and the other
two (2) appointments to be appointed at -large, for a total of seven (7) members. Additionally:
(a) No person shall serve as Chairperson of more than two (2) Boards/Committees.
(b) No person shall serve on more than two (2) Boards/Committees.
(c) Should any appointee resign during the term of the Board, the Commission, by
majority vote, shall select another appointee to fill that vacancy.
(d) Members shall be appointed to serve for a two-year term, but that term may be
renewed as often as desirable.
(e) Attendance Policy: The City's attendance policy for members of boards and
committees provide that, if a member fails to attend three (3) duly noticed

meetings of such groups without being excused for good cause, the member
may be removed from his or her seat automatically. A board member or
committee member may not be removed from his or her seat unless the City
Clerk certifies that the member has failed to attend three (3) duly noticed
meetings. Committee duly noticed meetings of the board and committees
include regular scheduled meetings and any special meetings. The City
Commission finds that personal illness, family emergencies, military absences,
family weddings, family graduation exercises, and bona fide business and
vacation trips constitute good cause for nonattendance at a duly noticed
meeting.
Section 2. Selection of Board Members. The City Commission hereby approves the
following appointments to the Historic Preservation Board for calendar years 2022 and 2023:

Section 3. Annual Reporting Requirements. The Board shall provide the Clerk of the Courts
and the Miami -Dade Historic Preservation Chief with a report regarding the activities of the
Board over the year.
Section 4. Rules of Procedure. The Board shall be governed by the Rules of Procedure that
govern the City Commission, and subject to Florida's Sunshine and Public Records Law and
Financial Disclosure requirements.
Section 5. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon
adoption.

RE: Approval of Appointments to the Historic Preservation Board for Calendai
Years 2022-2023
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this Resolution.
REASONS:
The City Commission created the Historic Preservation Board to provide standards and review for the
preservation of historical properties within the City, and makes recommendations to the City
Commission regarding the designation of historic properties within the boundaries of the city.
These appointments will be for a two-year term, automatically expiring on December 31, 2023.
Appointments may be renewed by the Commission, if so desired.
