A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH,
FLORIDA, APPROVING AN IN-KIND DONATION TO iPREP ACADEMY NORTH, IN
AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TWELVE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED TWENTY-
SIX DOLLARS ($4,878.00) FOR 30 STOP THE BLEED KITS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign and call -to -action,
encouraging bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding
emergency before professional help arrives; and
WHEREAS, Stop the Bleed Kits ("Kits") enable bystanders to be prepared to respond to a
bleeding emergency, as the kits include life-saving tools such as a tourniquet, QuikClot, gloves,
elastic and modular bandages, gauze, sponges, scissors, and an instructional guide; and
WHEREAS, iPrep Academy North is a Miami -Dade County public school, servicing a
multitude of students who are residents of the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City"); and
WHEREAS, the safety and protection of the City's school -aged children is of utmost
importance to the City, as evidenced by the City's past donations of Kits to both Norman S.
Edelcup/Sunny Isles Beach K — 8 School, and Alonzo & Tracy Mourning Senior High School; and
WHEREAS, in partnership with the school's principal, teachers will receive the proper
training to use the Kits in the event of an emergency; and
WHEREAS, the donation of the Kits, along with the training, will provide life-saving tools
that can help in the critical moments before first responders can arrive; and
WHEREAS, the availability of the Kits and training will empower teachers, staff and
students, with the essential tools to control life threatening bleeding from emergencies using
proven lifesaving equipment; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 172-5(B) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Sunny
Isles Beach ("City"), donation of in-kind goods must be approved by the affirmative votes of at
least four (4) members of the City Commission at a public meeting if such in-kind goods and
services exceed a total cost of $10,000.00; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to present an in-kind donation of 30 Kits to iPrep
Academy North, in an amount not to exceed Four Thousand Eight Hundred Seventy -Eight
Dollars ($4,878.00), and finds that said donation serves a municipal purpose.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY
ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. Approval of Donation. The City Commission hereby approves the in-kind
donation of 30 Stop the Bleed Stations to iPrep Academy North, in an amount not to exceed
Four Thousand Eight Hundred Seventy -Eight Dollars ($4,878.00), and finds that said donation
serves a municipal purpose.
Section 2. Authority of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.

RE: Approving a Donation of Stop the Bleed Stations for iPrep Academy North
RECOMMENDATION:
This Resolution is presented for your consideration.
REASONS:
In the City's recent resolutions to equip Sunny Isles Beach K-8 and Alonzo and Tracy Mouring Senio
High with tools needed to care for our children, it is recommended that we also donate 30 Stop the
Bleed Stations (Stations) to iPrep Academy North (iPrep). Although iPrep is not located in our Citi
many students are Sunny Isles Beach residents. iPrep has agreed to ensure that teachers and staff
receive the proper training to use the Stations in the event of an emergency. The donation of the
Stations, along with the training, will provide life-saving tools that can help in the critical moments
before first responders can arrive. They will empower teachers, staff, and students with the essential
tools to control life-threatening bleeding from emergencies using proven lifesaving equipment.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are budgeted and available in the City Commission's donation account 001-1-5510-482000-
00000.
