Home My WebLink AboutReso 2022-3450RESOLUTION NO. 2022 - ��3450 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE RESULTS OF THE GENERAL RUN-OFF ELECTION HELD ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2022; DECLARING LARISA SVECHIN TO BE ELECTED AS MAYOR; DISCHARGING THE CANVASSING BOARD FOR THE RUN-OFF ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City") held a general run-off election on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, to elect a Mayor ("Run -Off Election"); and WHEREAS, Section 26-5 of the City's Code of Ordinances provides that the City Clerk, the City Manager, and one registered voter shall serve as the Canvassing Board for all municipal elections which do not appear on the same ballot as a County election; and WHEREAS, on July 211t, 2022, via Resolution No. 2022-3379, the City Commission designated Gloria Taft as the registered voter of the City to serve on the Canvassing Board; and WHEREAS, the Canvassing Board met on December 9, 2022, and proceeded to publicly canvass the votes cast for the candidates in the Run -Off Election, which then were subsequently certified by the Miami -Dade Supervisor of Elections; and WHEREAS, the City Commission now wishes to accept the results of the December 6, 2022, Run -Off Election. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Acceptance of Results of Run -Off Election. The City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach hereby accepts the results of the general run-off election held on December 6, 2022, as follows: For MAYOR, the whole numbers of votes cast was 3,318 of which DANA GOLDMAN received 1,649 votes LARISA SVECHIN received 1,669 votes Section 2. Scheduling Installation of New Officer. Pursuant to Section 26-10 of the City's Code of Ordinances, the City Clerk will administer the oath to Larisa Svechin as Mayor at a special City Commission meeting scheduled for January 5, 2023. Section 3. Discharge of the Canvassing Board. The City Commission hereby discharges the Gloria Taft, member; Stan Morris, member; and Mauricio Betancur, Chairperson, as the City's Canvassing Board for the December 6, 2022, Run -Off Election. Section 4. Effective Date. This resolution shall become effective upon adoption. REASONS: A run-off election was held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, to elect a Mayor between the two (2) candidates who received the highest number of ballots cast during the November 8, 2022, General Election. This Resolution accepts results of said run-off election declaring Larisa Svechin as Mayor. This resolution also discharges the Canvassing Board. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The Canvassing Board, comprised of the City Clerk, the City Manager, and registered voter Gloria Taft to publicly canvass the votes cast for the candidates in the Run -Off Election, which then were subsequently certified by the Miami -Dade Supervisor of Elections.
