A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH,
FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
COMPREHENSIVE CRIME CONTROLACT OF 1984 TO EXPEND PARTIAL FORFEITURE
FUNDS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE ("DOJ") FEDERAL FORFEITURE
ACCOUNT FOR THE PURCHASE OF THREE (3) UNMARKED POLICE VEHICLES WITH
EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT, IN AN AMOUNT NOTTO EXCEED ONE HUNDRED SIXTY-
FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($165,000.00), ATTACHED HERETO AS EXHIBIT "A";
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984, the City of
Sunny Isles Beach ("City") and its Police Department are authorized to expend forfeiture funds
from the established Department of Justice ("DOJ") federal forfeiture account, for approved
programs or purchases intended to enhance law enforcement purposes; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of -1984 and Florida
Statutes §932.7055(5)(b), upon the request of the Chief of Police to the governing body of a
municipality, liens and forfeiture funds may be expended if accompanied by written certification
that the request complies with the provisions of the aforementioned subsections; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has submitted a request to expend DOJ forfeiture funds in
compliance with the aforementioned legal requirements for the purchase of three (3) unmarked
police vehicles with emergency equipment, in an amount not to exceed One Hundred Sixty -Five
Thousand Dollars ($165,000.00), attached hereto as Exhibit "A".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY
ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Expenditure of Partial Federally Forfeited Monies. Based on the attached
certification, attached hereto as Exhibit "A", the Chief of Police is hereby authorized to spend up to
One Hundred Sixty -Five Thousand Dollars ($165,000.00), from the established Department of
Justice federal forfeitures account for the purchase of three (3) unmarked police vehicles with
emergency equipment.
Section 2. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.

RE: Authorize the Expenditure of DOJ Forfeiture Funds
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this Resolution.
REASONS:
The Police Department is seeking approval to expend Department of Justice forfeiture funds tc
purchase three unmarked police vehicles for an amount not to exceed $165,000.00. The current life
cycle for unmarked police vehicles in our fleet is 7 years. These three vehicles will replace vehicles
currently in use for at least that designated amount of time and are in need of replacement. These
vehicles will be equipped with police emergency equipment which is included in the estimated unit
price.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds have been appropriated in account no. 600-3-5210-XXXXXX-XXXXX.
