HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2023-3568RESOLUTION NO. 2023 - U A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING A DONATION TO THE INTRACOASTAL POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS AND NO CENTS ($25,000.00) FROM THE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUNDS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Intracoastal Police Athletic League ("IPAL") is a newly formed organization established to prevent juvenile crime and violence by providing civic, athletic, recreational, and educational opportunities and resources to our local youth; and WHEREAS, the IPAL's mission is to successfully build bridges between the police and the communities they serve, and to redirect youth away from crime and towards positive societal contributions; and WHEREAS, the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department (the "SIBPD") desires to support the goals and objectives of the IPAL; and WHEREAS, the SIBPD desires to donate an amount not to exceed Twenty -Five Thousand Dollars and No Cents ($25,000.00) of Local Law Enforcement Funds for use by IPAL (the "Donation"), with intentions that the funds will be used to foster prevention of juvenile crime by provisioning recreational programs for the youth; and WHEREAS, this initiative and endeavor will be a joint collaboration with the City of Aventura's Police Department, who have pledged to match the aforementioned donation; and WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the best interest of its residents to approve the Donation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval Donation. The City Commission hereby approves a donation to the Intracoastal Police Athletic League, in an amount not to exceed Twenty -Five Thousand Dollars and No Cents ($25,000.00) from the Local Law Enforcement Trust Funds. Section 2. Authorization of City Manager and Chief of Police. The City Manager and the Chief of Police are hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. REASONS: The Police Department is seeking to donate $25,000.00 of Local Law Enforcement Funds for use by the newly formed Intracoastal Police Athletic League. The funds will be used to support the program in hopes of preventing juvenile crime by providing recreational programs for youths to participate in. This will be a collaboration between the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department and the Aventura Polic( Department who have pledged to match our donation to fund the program. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This donation is also subject to approval of the Police Chief's Certification of Expenditure of Local Lain. Enforcement Funds, certifying that this expenditure meets the guidelines of s. 932.7055, F.S. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds have been appropriated in account 610-3-5210-XXXXXX-XXXXX.
