A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH,
FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT
SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, in January of 2022, the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach
("City") adopted Ordinance No. 2022-576, establishing the "Environment Sustainability
Advisory" (the "ESAC); and
WHEREAS, on March 16th, 2023, via Resolution No. 2023-3487, the City Commission
approved the appointments to the ESAC; and
WHEREAS, the ESAC is responsible for providing guidance and recommendations
regarding the City's efforts to provide and promote general environmental improvement
trends, green initiatives, and sustainable development, defined as a pattern of resource use
that aims to meet community needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can
be met, not only in the present, but in the indefinite future; and
WHEREAS, in calendar year 2023, the ESAC met a total of eight (8) times and have
submitted their list of recommendations, attached hereto as Exhibit "A"; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission now wishes to accept the recommendations of the
ESAC.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY
ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Acceptance of Recommendations bV Environment Sustainability Advisory
Committee. The City Commission hereby accepts the recommendations of the Environment
Sustainability Advisory, attached hereto as "Exhibit A".
Section 2. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon
adoption.

RE: Approval of Recommendations of the City's Environment Sustainability
Advisory Committee
RECOMMENDATION:
Presented for your consideration.
REASONS:
In January 2022, the City Commission adopted Ordinance No. 2022-576, establishing the "Environment
Sustainability Advisory Committee" (the "Committee"). The Committee is responsible for providing
guidance and recommendations regarding the City's efforts to provide and promote general
environmental improvement trends, green initiatives, and sustainable development, defined as a
pattern of resource use that aims to meet community needs while preserving the environment so that
these needs can be met, not only in the present, but in the indefinite future.
In calendar year 2023, the Committee met a total of eight (8) times and have submitted the following
recommendation:
The Committee recommends an increase in the tree count throughout the entire city. We would like
to initiate a pilot program in two different locations to monitor progress, Pelican Park and the vicinity
of Norman S. Edelcup Sunny Isles Beach K-8 School and Town Center Park. Our desire is to achieve ;
70 percent increase in the number of trees in these areas. Additionally, we are providing a list of salt -
tolerant and coastal area trees for your considetation, to be used at your discretion.
