HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2023-3583RESOLUTION NO. 2023 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING AN IN-KIND DONATION TO THE NORTH MIAMI BEACH LITTLE LEAGUE IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($3,000.00) FOR USE OF THE CHIEF FRED MAAS BASEBALL FIELD TO PROVIDE A RECREATIONAL BASEBALL PROGRAM FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2024; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City") is committed to providing a variety of quality recreational opportunities to our community; and WHEREAS, North Miami Beach Little League is a non-profit organization that provides a youth baseball program to the residents of the City; and WHEREAS, the City relies upon the North Miami Beach Little League for its resident to participate in youth baseball because there are an insufficient number of resident participants for the City to operate its own league; and WHEREAS, the North Miami Beach Little League and the City are dedicated to activities that benefit the children of the Sunny Isles Beach community; and WHEREAS, the North Miami Beach Little League organization has requested use of the Chief Fred Maas Baseball Field to provide a recreational baseball program including the annual Challenger Program which is a short off-season baseball program that provides the opportunity for disabled players to partner with volunteer players to play baseball in a fun and safe environment, including City residents; and WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is dedicated to supporting these activities with an in-kind donation for the use of the field, in an amount not to exceed Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00) based on their requested schedule for calendar year 2024. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval of Donation. The City Commission hereby approves the in-kind donation to the North Miami Beach Little League for use of the Chief Fred Maas Baseball Field located at Pelican Community Park, in an amount not to exceed Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00) based on their requested schedule for calendar year 2024. Section 2. Authority of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. REASONS: The North Miami Beach Little League provides a quality baseball program for children who reside it Sunny Isles Beach, as well as the surrounding communities. In order to keep enrollment costs low for participants, the program relies on volunteer coaches and staff, as well as filed -use donations from participating cities. The city wishes to continue their relationship by offering an in-kind donation for their Spring season, which runs from January 2024 through May 2024. Our donation would incluclE waiving rental fees for the use of the Chief Fred Maas Baseball Field at Pelican Community Park. Base( on the requested days and times, the rental fees waived would be for an amount not to exceed $3,000. FUNDING SOURCE: There is no direct funding needed for this item other than personnel required to perform regular ongoing maintenance of the field. ATTACHMENTS: Resolution Item Number: 10.F
