HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2023-3584RESOLUTION NO. 2023 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING AN IN-KIND DONATION TO CHABAD LUBAVITCH RUSSIAN CENTER OF SOUTH FLORIDA FOR USE OF GATEWAY CENTER AND GATEWAY PARK FOR A FREE COMMUNITY EVENT; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City") has received an in-kind donation request from the Chabad Lubavitch Russian Center of South Florida (the "Chabad") for use of Gateway Center and Gateway Park (collectively the "Facilities"); and WHEREAS, the Chabad host their annual Chanukah event (the "Event") at the Facilities; and WHEREAS, the Event is free and open to the public, with an anticipated attendance of approximately 500 people; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to approve the use of the Facility as an in-kind donation to the Chabad for the Event, equating to an amount not to exceed Ten Thousand Seven Hundred Seventy -Five Dollars and No Cents ($10,775.00) in out-of-pocket expenses. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval of Donation. The City Commission hereby approves the use of the Facility as an in-kind donation to the Chabad for the Event, equating to an amount not to exceed Ten Thousand Seven Hundred Seventy -Five Dollars and No Cents ($10,775.00) in out-of- pocket expenses. Section 2. Authority of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. REASONS: Rabbi Kaller of Chabad Lubavitch Russian Center of South Florida has been hosting their Chanukal celebration at Gateway Park for the last couple of years. In addition, they celebrate Saturday services and the High Holidays at Gateway Center. This year they are requesting fees be waived for use of Gateway Park, staff, tables and chairs, electricity, police detail. Their Chanukah event will be held Sunday, December 10 from 3:00pm — 6:00pm. Set up of the evens begins at 9:00am. This event would require closure of Gateway Park during set up, but the event is open to the public with an anticipated attendance of 250-500 people. The Chabad is requesting use of the stage for live music or a DJ. There will also be tents, amusement rides, and food trucks. All vendor! will be required to name the City of Sunny Isles Beach as additionally insured. No alcohol will be served during this event. They are requesting an in-kind donation from the City: Donation Request Fees Rental of Gateway Park: $7,600 Two staff to assist before, after, and during the event: $720 ($40/hour/staff) 60 White padded folding chairs: $75 Item Number: 10.G Eight 8' Tables: $80 ($10/table) Electricity: $140 Five Police Detail: $1,520 ($76/hour) Cleaning fee (2 staff members): $540 ($90/hour/staff) Additional Dumpster Fee: $100 The total in-kind donation request is $10,775.
