HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2014-2280RESOLUTION NO. 2014- 2280 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNI' ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING AN IN -KIND DONATION TO THE SUNNI' ISLES BEACH FOUNDATION, INC. TO ASSIST IN AN EVENT TO HONOR THE RETIREMENT OF MAYOR NORMAN S. EDELCUP, IN AN ESTIMATED AMOUNT OF THREE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS (S3,200.00); AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS. the City of Sunny Isles Beach is approaching an historical occasion. the retirement of Mayor Norman S. Edelcup who will be the first Mayor to retire from office; and WHEREAS, in order to commemorate this milestone. the Sunny Isles Beach Foundation. Inc. is planning a formal retirement dinner; and WHEREAS_ this event requires some assistance from City staff who have the expertise to develop and coordinate certain aspects of the event including photography and video production, event planning, invite database development and distribution, program design and production: and WHEREAS, in -kind expenses related to staff time and use of City equipment to assist in this event are estimated at Three Thousand Two Hundred Dollars (S3,200.00): and WHEREAS, the City wishes to provide an in -kind donation to the Sunny Isles Beach Foundation. Inc. in an estimated amount of Three Thousand Two Hundred Dollars (S3,200.00), to honor our Mayor and to benefit the Sunny Isles Beach Foundation. Inc. a non - profit organization dedicated to the betterment of the community of Sunny Isles Beach. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval of Donation. The City Commission hereby approves the donation of in- kind support of City staff and use of City equipment for the Sunny Isles Beach Foundation. Inc. to honor Mayor Norman S. Edelcup at a formal retirement event, in an estimated amount of Three Thousand Two Hundred Dollars (S3,200.00). Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. Russo, City Manager September 11, 2014 In -Kind Services Donation to the Sunny Isles Beach Foundation RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached resolution. REASONS: The City of Sunny Isles Beach is approaching an historical occasion, the first retirement of a mayor. Rather than the City bear the entire expense to commemorate this milestone, the Sunny Isles Beach Foundation is planning a formal retirement dinner. This event requires some assistance from City staff who have the expertise to develop and coordinate certain aspects of the event including, but not limited to; photography and video production, event planning, invite database development, program design and production. Much of this work will also be used for other events leading up to Mayor Edelcup's retirement. For example, photography and video production will be used for the newspaper, website and the government access channel. The invite database will be used for farewell communications by Mayor Edelcup and other City correspondence. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: In -kind expenses related to staff time and use of city equipment (AV, computers, printers) and minor supplies / consumables (DVD, paper) to assist in this regard are estimated at $3,200. Authorization is requested to provide in -kind services in an amount not to exceed $3,200 to assist in these aspects of the event to honor the retirement of our mayor and to benefit the Sunny Isles Beach Foundation, a non - profit organization dedicated to the betterment of the community of Sunny Isles Beach.
