REASONS: In April 2023, the City Commission passed Resolution Number 2023-3499, expressing strong support for a proposed traffic light and crosswalk at 196th Street and Collins Avenue. The resolution was submitted to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for consideration. FDOT conducted a study to evaluate the feasibility of the request, and in October 2024, the results indicated that current traffic and pedestrian counts do not justify a traffic signal or crosswalk at this location. In fact, the study showed a decline in foot traffic compared to previous assessments. However, residents of Golden Gates are now advocating for a flashing crosswalk at 196th Street and Collins Avenue to enhance pedestrian safety. This area serves families with children, seniors, and other community members who rely on safe crossings. In response, the City is requesting that FDOT reevaluate this location fora flashing crosswalkto improve pedestrian safety and accessibility. ATTACHMENTS: Resolution Item Number: 9.K 175
