HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2025-3849RESOLUTION NO. 2025 - 3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE ISSUANCE OF A PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING THE MONTH OF JULY 2025 AS PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH IN THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation Month is celebrated nationally each July to recognize the vital role that parks, public spaces, and recreational programs play in enhancing the quality of life for communities across the country; and WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City") is proud to offer a diverse range of parks and recreational services that offers programming and athletic, cultural, and educational activities ; and WHEREAS, the City's Cultural and Community Services Department provides innovative programming, maintains beautiful green spaces, and ensures access to inclusive recreational opportunities that enrich the lives of the community; and WHEREAS, recognizing July as Parks and Recreation Month highlights the importance of continued investment in recreational infrastructure and programs, and reaffirms the City's commitment to building a vibrant, healthy, and active community; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to issue an official proclamation formally recognizing July 2025 as Parks and Recreation Month in the City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval Issuance of Proclamation. The City Commission hereby approves the issuance of a proclamation recognizing July 2025 as Parks and Rec Month in the City. Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. Proclamation ys)„ F OPCO 4 C,rr 4F SUN PNO WHEREAS, parks and recreation is an integral part of communities throughout this country, including the City of Sunny Isles Beach ("City'); and WHEREAS, parks and recreation promotes health and wellness, improving thephysical and mental health of people who live near parks; and WHEREAS, parks and recreation promotes time spent in nature, whichpositively impacts mental health by increasing cognitive performance and well-being, and alleviating illnesses such as depression, attention deficit disorders, and Alzheimer; and WHEREAS, parks and recreation encourages physical activities by providing space for popular sports, hiking trails, swimming pools and many other activities designed to promote active lifestyles; and WHEREAS, parks and recreation is a leading provider of healthy meals, nutrition services and education; and WHEREAS, park and recreation programming and education activities, such as out-of-school time programming, youth sports and environmental education, are critical to childhood development; and WHEREAS, parks and recreation increases a community's economic prosperity through increased property values, expansion of the local tax base, increased tourism, the attraction and retention of businesses, and crime reduction; and WHEREAS, parks and recreation is fundamental to the environmental well-being of our community; and WHEREAS, parks and recreation is essential and adaptable infrastructure that makes our communities resilient in the face of natural disasters and climate change; and WHEREAS, our parks and natural recreation areas ensure the ecological beauty of our community and provide a place for children and adults to connect with nature and recreate outdoors; and WHEREAS, the U.S. House of Representatives has designated July as Parks and Recreation Month; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to recognize the benefits derived from parks and recreation resources. Now, THEREFORE, DO I, Larisa Svechin, as Mayor, and on behalf of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, hereby proclaim the month of July as "Parks and Recreation Month "in the City of Sunny Isles Beach. REASONS: This year marks the 40th anniversary of Parks and Recreation Month! Each July, we celebrate park and recreation professionals and how they improve the lives of tens of millions of people, making a lasting impact in communities across the country. Park and recreation programs are essential to community health and well-being and help cultivate lifelong friendships, memories and family bonds that people hold dear decades later. This year's theme, "Build Together, Play Together," reminds us of the contributions of more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals - along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers - who maintain our country's close -to -home parks.
