A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH,
FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
COMPREHENSIVE CRIME CONTROL ACT OF 19841 TO EXPEND FORFEITURE FUNDS
FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE ("DOJ") FEDERAL FORFEITURE ACCOUNTTO
PURCHASE FITNESS EQUIPMENT FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, IN AN AMOUNT
NOTTO EXCEED ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-TWO THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED FIFTY-
SIX DOLLARS AND FORTY-ONE CENTS ($122,256.41), ATTACHED HERETO AS
EXHIBIT "A"; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984, the City of
Sunny Isles Beach ("City") and its Police Department are authorized to expend forfeiture funds from
the established Department of Justice ("DOJ") federal forfeiture account, for approved programs or
purchases intended to enhance law enforcement purposes; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984 and Florida
Statutes §932.7055(5)(b), upon the request of the Chief of Police to the governing body of a
municipality, liens and forfeiture funds may be expended if accompanied by written certification
that the request complies with the provisions of the aforementioned subsections; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has submitted a request to expend DOJ forfeiture funds in
compliance with the aforementioned legal requirements to purchase fitness equipment for the
Police Department, in an amount not to exceed One Hundred Twenty -Two Thousand Two Hundred
Fifty -Six Dollars and Forty -One Cents ($122,256.41), attached hereto as Exhibit "A".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY
ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Expenditure of Federally Forfeited Monies. Based on the certification, attached
hereto as Exhibit "A", the Chief of Police is hereby authorized to spend One Hundred Twenty -Two
Thousand Two Hundred Fifty -Six Dollars and Forty -One Cents ($122,256.41), from the established
Department of Justice federal forfeitures account to purchase fitness equipment for the Police
Department.
Section 2. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.

RE: Expend DOJ Funds for the Purchase of Fitness Equipment.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
REASONS:
Requesting expenditure of DOJ funds in the amount of $122,256.41 (which includes a 15% contingency)
for the purchase of fitness equipment. The equipment will be placed within the police department in an
area that is being converted into a fitness facility. This initiative aims to enhance both physical and
mental well-being among department personnel, providing lasting benefits while also serving as a
valuable tool for recruitment and retention.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in account no. 600-3-5210-XXXXXX-XXXXX.
