HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2025-3872RESOLUTION NO. 2025 - ,�� A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE ISSUANCE OF A PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING SEPTEMBER 18, 2025, AS EMMANUEL MACHADO DAY IN THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City") recognizes individuals that go above and beyond to protect and serve their community in moments of crisis; and WHEREAS, on July 27, 2025, a serious vehicle crash occurred in the City, resulting in a vehicle plunging into a canal near Bayview Drive and Collins Avenue; and WHEREAS, despite the danger and urgency of the situation, Emmanuel Machado acted swiftly and selflessly to assist those involved in the crash, helping ensure that all occupants of the submerged vehicle escaped safely and without injury; and WHEREAS, Emmanuel Machado's courageous actions exemplify the highest standards of civic responsibility, bravery, and compassion, serving as an inspiration to the residents and visitors of Sunny Isles Beach; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to formally recognize Emmanuel Machado's heroic response by issuing an official proclamation in his honor. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval Issuance of Proclamation. The City Commission hereby approves the issuance of a proclamation recognizing September 18, 2025, as Emmanuel Machado Day in the City. Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. NOW, THEREFORE, DO I, Larisa Svechin, as Mayor, and on behalf of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, hereby proclaim September 18, 2025, as "Emmanuel Machado Day" in the City of Sunny Isles Beach. REASONS: On July 27, 2025, a vehicle crash near Bayview Drive and Collins Avenue resulted in a Tesla plunging into a canal. Emmanuel Machado, a bystander at the scene, responded immediately and courageously, assisting the vehicle's occupants in escaping safely.
