RESOLUTION NO. 2025 - - x-01 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO RAISE THE FLAG OF ISRAEL ON <br />OCTOBER 7, 2025, IN A DISPLAY OF SUPPORT AND SOLIDARITY WITH THE <br />STATE OF ISRAEL AND ITS PEOPLE; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO <br />ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE TERMS OF THIS RESOLUTION; <br />PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City") is home to a vibrant Jewish and <br />Israeli community with deep cultural, familial, and historical ties to Israel, with our first sister <br />city, Netanya; and <br />WHEREAS, on October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a barbaric, unprovoked attack on <br />Israel, brutally murdering, maiming, and torturing over 1,200 innocent civilians, including <br />women, children, and the elderly, taking hostages of which 48 remain, and igniting an ongoing <br />conflict marked by unimaginable horror; and <br />WHEREAS, this savage assault has profoundly impacted our own community as many <br />residents have personal connections to those killed, injured, or still suffering; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Commission stands firmly with Israel, recognizing its undeniable <br />right to defend itself, as affirmed by the State of Florida and the United States government, and <br />chooses to honor the victims and show solidarity by raising the Israeli flag on October 7, 2025, <br />declaring unequivocally that City stands on the right side of history. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY <br />ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Expressing Support for Israel. The City Commission hereby expresses its <br />unwavering support for Israel and its people, and condemns the atrocities committed by Hamas, <br />Section 2. Direction to Raise State of Israel's Flag. The City Commission hereby directs the <br />City Manager to raise the State of Israel's flag on October 7, 2025, in a manner comporting with <br />the State of Florida's flag protocols. <br />Section 3. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all <br />things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. <br />Section 4. Effective Date.
