HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2025-3921RESOLUTION NO. 2025 - 31� A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, UPDATING THE OFFICIAL CITY COLOR PALETTE FOR EXTERIOR WALLS OF STRUCTURES; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City") recognizes the importance of maintaining a cohesive and visually harmonious community character through thoughtful regulation of exterior building design; and WHEREAS, many municipalities, including Miami Beach, Coral Gables, and Palm Springs, have adopted official wall color palettes and materials ("Color Palettes") to ensure architectural compatibility while allowing creative expression; and WHEREAS, a defined Color Palette provides clear guidance to property owners, builders, and design professionals regarding acceptable exterior colors, thereby ensuring compatibility among structures throughout the community; and WHEREAS, the City has previously regulated Color Palettes under Chapter 150 of the Code of Ordinances, now relocated to Chapter 265 of the Land Development Regulations for consistency and clarity; and WHEREAS, the City finds that allowing a Color Palette with a limited range of accent colors provides opportunities for creative architectural expression while preserving overall community aesthetics and identity as an oceanfront community; and WHEREAS, the previous Sherwin Williams Color Palette defined in Chapter 150 has become obsolete and needs to be updated; and WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the best interest of its residents to approve an updated Color Palette for the City. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Updating Color Palette. The City Commission hereby approves the updates to the official Color Palette of the City, attached here to as Exhibit "A". Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution will become effective upon adoption. REASONS: The current palette of colors defined in Chapter 150 is the, "Sherman Williams Fundamentally Neutral Color Numbers SW 6000 through SW 6276 up to the 4th panel of each color palette strip (Nos. 1 through 40)." However, Sherwin Williams has changed their numbering structure and no longer uses the Fundamentally Neutral Color deck. Staff worked directly with Sherwin Williams to create the City Color Palette, which took the 160 existing colors and updated them to the new numbering system. It also provides more information regarding each of the colors, to make color matching with other brands easier. The companion ordinance to this resolution repeals Chapter 150 and defines the City Color Palette as, "the officially adopted set of exterior building colors established by.the City to promote visual harmony and maintain community character. The palette identifies approved colors for exterior wall surfaces, trim, and other architectural elements of buildings. The City Color Palette is maintained by the Planning& Zoning Department and may be amended by resolution of the City Commission." The City Color Palette is attached to this memo for review and adoption by the Commission. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Upon adoption by resolution, the City Color Palette will be published on the City's website (sibfl.gov) and incorporated into the Planning & Zoning public resources.
