A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH,
FLORIDA, APPROVING THE ISSUANCE OF A PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING
JANUARY 27, 2026, AS INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, International Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed annually on January
27 to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and to honor the memory of the six million
Jewish men, women, and children, as well as millions of other innocent victims, who were
systematically persecuted and murdered by the Nazi regime and its collaborators; and
WHEREAS, the United Nations General Assembly designated January 27 as International
Holocaust Remembrance Day to promote education, remembrance, and awareness of the
Holocaust in order to prevent future acts of genocide and hatred; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City") is a diverse and inclusive community
that values human dignity, mutual respect, and the protection of fundamental human rights;
and
WHEREAS, recognizing International Holocaust Remembrance Day affirms the City's
commitment to remembering historical atrocities, combating antisemitism and all forms of
hatred, and educating future generations on the importance of tolerance, justice, and moral
responsibility; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to issue a proclamation recognizing January 27,
2026, as International Holocaust Remembrance Day in the City of Sunny Isles Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES
BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Approval Issuance of Proclamation. The City Commission hereby approves the
issuance of a proclamation recognizing January 27, 2026, as International Holocaust
Remembrance Day in the City of Sunny Isles Beach.
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.

WHEREAS, International Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed annually on
January 27, the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration
and extermination camp, to honor the memory of the six million Jewish men, women, and
children, as well as millions of other innocent victims, who were systematically
persecuted and murdered by the Nazi regime and its collaborators during the Holocaust;
and
WHEREAS, the Holocaust stands as one of the darkest chapters in human history and
serves as a solemn reminder of the consequences of unchecked hatred, antisemitism,
discrimination, and indifference; and
WHEREAS, in 2005, the United Nations General Assembly designated January 27 as
International Holocaust Remembrance Day to encourage education, remembrance, and
reflection in order to prevent future acts of genocide and crimes against humanity; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City') is a diverse and inclusive
community that values human dignity, mutual respect, and the protection offundamental
human rights for all people, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, or background; and
WHEREAS, remembering the Holocaust honors the victims and survivors, preserves
historical truth, and reinforces the moral responsibility of present and future generations
to confront hatred, bigotry, and intolerance wherever they arise; and
WHEREAS, the City is committed to fostering understanding, promoting tolerance, and
standing against antisemitism and all forms of hatred through education, civic
engagement, and community dialogue.
NOW, THEREFORE, DO I, Larisa Svechin, as Mayor, and on behalf of the City of
Sunny Isles Beach, hereby proclaim January 27, 2026, as "International Holocaust
Remembrance Day" in the City of Sunny Isles Beach.

REASONS:
Attached for your consideration is a proclamation recognizing January 27, 2026, as International
Holocaust Remembrance Day in the City of Sunny Isles Beach. International Holocaust Remembrance
Day is observed worldwide to honor the memory of the six million Jewish victims and millions of other
innocent individuals murdered during the Holocaust, and to promote education, remembrance, and
reflection to help prevent future acts of genocide and hatred.
