A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES
BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO FLORIDA HOUSE BILL 605;
DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION;
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO
EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Florida House Bill 605 ("HB 605") proposes to expand the use of public
funds and governmental resources for purposes that are unrelated to core municipal
services; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission is concerned that such measures may set
precedent for the inappropriate use of public funds and erode local fiscal discretion; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that decisions regarding the use of public
funds should remain within the control of local governments; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission finds that it is in the best interests of its residents
to oppose HB 605.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Expression of Opposition. The City Commission hereby expresses its
opposition to HB 605.
Section 2. Direction to the City Clerk. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit
copies of this Resolution to the Florida League of Cities, the President of the Florida
Senate, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, and the Governor of the
State of Florida.
Section 3. Authorization of the City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized
to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day oj-Ja'nuary, 2026.
