HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2026-3952RESOLUTION NO.2026 - S-OP52-- A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE ISSUANCE OF PROCLAMATIONS REQUESTED BY CITY ADMINISTRATION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, on May 15t', 2025, via Ordinance No. 2025-628, the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City") adopted a policy and procedure requiring Commission approval prior to the issuance of official City proclamations; and WHEREAS, the City recognizes the importance of honoring the dedicated public service and hard work of its employees, often through acknowledgment aligned with nationally or locally designated observance days or weeks; and WHEREAS, such proclamations serve to bolster employee morale and highlight the essential roles played by municipal staff in delivering quality services to the community; and WHEREAS, to streamline the approval process and promote efficiency, City Administration requests Commission approval for employee recognition proclamations issued throughout the 2026 calendar year; and WHEREAS, this process applies exclusively to proclamations initiated by the City Administration and does not affect those brought forward by elected officials. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS': Section 1. Approval Issuance of Proclamations. The City Commission hereby approves the issuance of the requested proclamations by City Administration, as follows: January January 16 — Florida Arbor Day February February 15 — School Resource Officer Appreciation Day February 21— Government Communicator's Day March March 11— Procurement Professional's Day March 12 — Family Resource Day March 2 through March 6 — Flood Awareness Week March 18 —Transit Driver Appreciation Day 1 This resolution was amended during the commission meeting, but prior to approval. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. FROM: Susan Simpson, Deputy City Manager. DATE: January 15, 2026 RE: City Administration Initiated Proclamations RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of this resolution. REASONS: With the passing of Ordinance No. 2025-628, City Commission approval is required prior to issuing a proclamation. The City Manager's Office finds it important to recognize the hard work and dedication of our employees. This work is commonly recognized through national and local organizations wherein days or weeks are designated as such. To streamline this process, it is the request of the City Manager's Office to obtain approval for the 2026 calendaryear. These proclamations are separate and apart from those that will be brought forward by each elected official. � � �P►T_T�T�T��]rltril_1�L�Ii<A Some proclamations proposed by the City Manager's Office on this list are required for grants or honorable designations such as Arbor Day for our Tree City USA designation.
