HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2014-2359RESOLUTION NO. 2014 - 2Z5Q A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY CONE IISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING A DONATION TO JOSHUA'S HEART FOUNDATION FOR THEIR FUNDRAISING EFFORTS AT JAZZ FEST 2014, IN THE AMOUNT OF ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS (S1,000.00); AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION: PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is committed to participating and informing its residents of cultural events and activities taking place in and around our community; and WHEREAS, Joshua's Heart Foundation was the designated sponsor for Jazz Fest 2014 on November 15, 2014, and has been the sponsor for the past six (6) years: and WHEREAS, Joshua's Heart Foundation provided the volunteers to assist in the event free of charge and marketed the event to all of their followers: and WHEREAS, in return. the City designated the net proceeds of the drink sales. net proceeds of the original art auction and one dollar (S 1.00) of each poster sale to benefit Joshua's Heart Foundation: and WHEREAS, this years donation is in an amount of Nine Hundred Twenty -Seven Dollars and Thirty -Nine Cents (5927.39), and the City Commission wishes to donate an additional Seventy -Two Dollars and Sixty -One Cents (572.61) for a total amount of One Thousand Dollars (51,000.00). NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY CONI IISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval of Donation. The City Commission hereby approves the donation of One Thousand Dollars (51,000.00) to Joshua's Heart Foundation for the Fundraising efforts at Jazz Fest 2014 on November 15, 2014. Section 2. Authoritv of Citv 1%9anager. The City_ klanager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. Russo, City Manager FROM: Susan Simpson, Cultural and Community Services Director DATE: 12/18/2014 RE: Donation to Joshua's Heart Foundation in the Amount of $1,000.00 RECOMMENDATION: This item is presented for your consideration. REASONS: Joshua's Heart Foundation (JHF) was the named charitable partner for Jazz Fest 2014. Utilizing donated beverages and goods; drinks, posters and chair rentals were sold at Jazz Fest 2014 to raise funds for their cause. In exchange for the financial donation, JHF provided over 30 volunteers to assist with the operation of the event. Jazz Fest 2014 raised $927.39 for JHF in sales. The attached resolution would approve the distribution of these funds as well as a City donation of $72.61 to bring the total raised to $1,000.00, the fundraising goal. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Overall revenues collected and committed for Jazz Fest 2014 total $37,758.14. Less this donation of sales revenue for certain goods, revenues received including a pending grant, sponsorships and sales, will total $36,830.75.
