NATALIE MILIAN ORBIS
COMMISSIONER
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
The Honorable Larisa Svechin
City of Sunny Isles Beach
Miami -Dade County, Florida
Dear Mayor Svechin,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to share that the Miami -Dade County Board of
County Commissioners voted unanimously to urge the administration of President Donald J.
Trump to suspend all Cuba related federal licenses and general authorizations pending full audits
by the Office of Foreign Assets Control and the Bureau of Industry and Security.
Miami -Dade County took this action because we have seen how certain federal authorizations
have been misused as commercial channels for the Cuban communist regime and its affiliated
networks. Our community knows this issue intimately. Many of our residents fled persecution,
political imprisonment, and the denial of basic freedoms. It is not consistent with our values to
allow federal licenses that can be exploited to strengthen a dictatorship that represses its own
people.
I respectfully invite you to join this call by publicly supporting the County's position or by
communicating directly with federal authorities. A unified voice from our municipalities would
send a clear message that Miami -Dade County stands for freedom and does not support
commercial activity that benefits a hostile and oppressive regime.
Thank you for your leadership, for your service to your residents, and for considering this
request. I would be honored to speak further at your convenience.
Respectfully,
Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis
