A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH,
FLORIDA, APPROVING THE ISSUANCE OF A PROCLAMATION PROCLAIMING THE
MONTH OF SEPTEMBER 2026 AS "HUNGER ACTION MONTH" IN THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH; AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ISSUE THE
PROCLAMATION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS
NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, since 1981, Feeding South Florida has worked to address hunger and food
insecurity by providing individuals and families throughout South Florida, including residents of
the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City"), with access to nutritious food and other vital
resources and support; and
WHEREAS, approximately one million individuals in South Florida face hunger and food
insecurity; and
WHEREAS, Feeding South Florida leads hunger and poverty advocacy efforts throughout
the community and transforms lives through innovative programs and educational initiatives
that promote economic growth and overall well-being; and
WHEREAS, the City is committed to supporting Feeding South Florida and its efforts to
achieve a hunger -free South Florida; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to recognize the month of September 2026 as
"Hunger Action Month" in the City of Sunny Isles Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES
BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Approval Issuance of Proclamation. The City Commission hereby approves the
issuance of a proclamation recognizing September 2026, as Hunger Action Month in the City of
Sunny Isles Beach.
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.

WHEREAS, since 1981 Feeding South Florida has worked to address hunger and food insecurity
in the City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City') by providing our community in immediate access
to nutritious food and other vital resources and support; and
WHEREAS, in South Florida approximately one million individuals face hunger; and
WHEREAS, Feeding South Florida leads hunger and poverty advocacy efforts in our community
while transforming lives through innovative programming and education that provides
economic growth and overall well-being; and
WHEREAS, the City is therefore committed to supporting Feeding South Florida, so that together
we can achieve a hunger free South Florida.
Now, THEREFORE, DOI, Larisa Svechin, as Mayor, and on behalf of the City Commission of the
City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, hereby proclaim the month of September 2026 as "Hunger
Action Month" in the City of Sunny Isles Beach.

RE: Proclamation Recognizing September 2026 as "Hunger Action Month"
RECOMMENDATION:
This item is presented for consideration by the City Commission.
REASONS:
The attached Resolution approves the issuance of a proclamation recognizing September 2026 as
"Hunger Action Month" in the City of Sunny Isles Beach.
Feeding South Florida has worked since 1981 to address hunger and food insecurity by providing access
to nutritious food, vital resources, education, and support services throughout South Florida. The
proclamation recognizes the organization's ongoing efforts and raises awareness of the approximately
one million individuals in South Florida who face hunger.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This proclamation requested by the Feeding South Florida organization and is being co -sponsored by
Mayor Larisa Svechin, and Commissioners Alex Lama and Fabiola Stuyvesant.
