A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH,
FLORIDA, AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 2024-3661 TO REVISE CITYWIDE PARKING
RATES; ESTABLISHING PARKING AGREEMENT RATES FOR TEMPORARY LONG-TERM
PARKING PERMITS; ESTABLISHING ELECTRIC VEHICLE RATES; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on June 20, 2024, via Ordinance No. 2024-614, the City Commission of the
City of Sunny Isles Beach (the "City") amended Section 256-13 of the City's Code of Ordinances
to allow all parking meter rates and parking permit fees to be established by resolution, and
amended from time to time; and
WHEREAS, on June 20th, 2024, via Resolution No. 2024-3661, the City Commission
established citywide parking meter rates and parking permit fees (collectively the "Parking
Fees"); and
WHEREAS, City staff recommends establishing rates for parking agreements for
temporary long-term parking permits; and
WHEREAS, City staff recommends establishing rates for Electric Vehicle ("EV") charging,
including idling fees; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to revise the Parking Fees as more particularly
described herein.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY
ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Revised Citywide Parking Fees. The City Commission hereby amends Resolution
No. 2024-3661, and revises the citywide parking fees, as follows:
A. Parking Garages and Non-Beachside Parking Lots
(1) Resident Rate: $2.00 per hour (must apply and qualify);
(2) General Public Rate: $4.00 per hour.
B. Beachside Parking Lots
(1) Resident Rate: $3.00 per hour (must apply and qualify);
(2) General Public Rate: $10.00 per hour.
C. Annual Resident Only Parking Permit (where designated):
(1) $50.00 per month.

D. Special Event Parking (outside normal daily operation):
(1) $50.00 per space not to exceed 12 hours. A refundable deposit of $500.00 will
be required.
E. Special Monthly Parking Permit (Residents Only):
A permit may be issued for parking of commercial and recreational vehicles underneath
the William Lehman Causeway, provided the fees are paid:
(1) Application fee: $100.00 per fiscal year;
(2) Parking fee: $75.00 per space;
(3) Transfer fee: $25.00.
F. Parking Agreements for Temporary Long -Term Parking:
(1) Per month:
i. $400.00 per space, plus tax and annual Consumer Price Index increases;
(2) Per day:
i. More than eight (8) hours: $14.00 per space, plus tax;
ii. Less than eight (8) hours: $10.00 per space, plus tax.
G. Electric Vehicle Charging:
(1) While charging:
i. $0.18 per kilowatt hour;
(2) While idling:
i. $0.10 per idle minute, not to exceed $25.00 per charging session.
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate the terms of this Resolution.
Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective on October 1, 2026.

RE: Parking Rate Update
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff presents this Resolution for consideration by the City Commission.
REASONS:
Per City Code Section 265-13 (A), parking rates are set by resolution. Therefore, the purpose of this
resolution is to update metered parking rates for beachfront parking lots and establish parking rates for
temporary parking permits as defined in the City's Parking Authority Code Sec. 256-6.
Specifically, the resolution would establish rates as follows:
• The City's current beach metered parking rate is $5.00 per hour for non-residents and $3.00 per
hour for residents. The resolution proposes an increase of the non-resident rate to $10.00 per
hour for beach parking lots and no increase to the resident rate. This aligns our prime beach
metered parking rates with the rates of neighboring municipalities.
• The resolution proposes to establish rates for parking agreements for temporary long-term
parking permits in the amount of $400.00 per parking space/per month for 24/7 access, plus tax
and annual CPI increases.

• This resolution also establishes a rate of $14 per space for daily parking and a rate of $10.00 per
space for partial day (8-hours) parking through a short-term parking rental agreement, also
subject to tax.
Additionally, the City currently provides Electric Vehicle Charging Stations at select locations throughout
the City at no charge. This was through an agreement with FPL in 2019 wherein they provided the
charging stations and the City provided the on -going costs for the electricity to provide free vehicle
charging for users.
Recently, F PL has agreed to allow us to charge users for the electricity to recover the city's out-of-pocket
costs. The rate charged for electricity usage must be commensurate with the rate charged by FPL for
the electricity. Additionally, to address concerns raised by the public, we will add idling fees to be
charged when a vehicle's charging session is over, and the vehicle remains in the parking spot. Those
rates will be established as follows:
• $0.18 per kilowatt hour resulting in the recovery of approximately $4,200.00 in electricity charges
per month.
• A new rate of $0.10 per minute idling fee. The idling fees would be capped at $25.00 per parking
session.
