Home My WebLink AboutReso 2015-2375 RESOLUTION NO. 2015- ,3r]5 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH,FLORIDA,ACCEPTING THE RESULTS OF THE SPECIAL ELECTION WHICH WAS HELD ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2015, DECLARING DANA GOLDMAN TO BE ELECTED AS COMMISSIONER, SEAT 3; RATIFYING THE REMOVAL OF EMANUEL PINE, AND THE APPOINTMENT OF GLORIA TAFT TO THE CANVASSING BOARD; DISCHARGING THE CANVASSING BOARD FOR THE SPECIAL ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS,the City of Sunny Isles Beach held a Special Election on Tuesday,February 17, 2015; and WHEREAS,the Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections and her staff of officials assisted the Sunny Isles Beach Canvassing Board for the February 17, 2015 Election; and WHEREAS, the Canvassing Board met on February 17, 2015, and proceeded to publicly canvass the votes cast for the candidates in the Special Election,and Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections certified the Special Election results; and WHEREAS, City Resolution No. 2014-2324, designated Emanuel Pine to be the registered voter to serve on the Canvassing Board with the City Manager and City Clerk for the Special Election, and Run-Off Election if needed. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Acceptance of Results of Special Election. The City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach hereby accepts the results of the Special Election held on February 17, 2015, as follows: For Residential Area Commissioner-- Seat 3,the whole number of votes cast was 1,076,of which number Dana Goldman received 554 votes or 51.49% of the votes Gene Newman received 183 votes or 17.01% of the votes Kevin Gerard Thomas received 339 votes or 31.51% of the votes Section 2. Ratify Removal and Appointment to Canvassing Board. The City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach hereby ratifies the removal of Emanuel Pine(moved out of State),and the appointment of Gloria Taft as a member of the City's Canvassing Board for the Special Election. The City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach hereby discharges the Canvassing Board being Gloria Taft, Member; City Manager Christopher J.Russo,Member;and City Clerk Jane A.Hines,Chairperson,as the City of Sunny Isles Beach's Canvassing Board for the Special Election. Section 4. Installation of New Officer. The City Clerk will administer the oath to Dana Goldman as City Commissioner, and the new officer will be installed and shall enter upon the discharge of her duties. Section 5. Effective Date. Hines, MMC, City Clerk DATE: February 19, 2015 RE: Resolution Accepting the Results of the Special Election Held on February 17, 2015 to Fill the Vacancy of City Commissioner Seat 3 RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution accepting the results of the Special Election held on February 17, 2015. REASONS: A Special Election was held on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 to fill a vacancy for City Commissioner Seat 3. This Resolution accepts the results of the Special Election declaring Dana Goldman as Residential Area City Commissioner Seat 3. It also ratifies the removal of Emanuel Pine from the Canvassing Board as he moved out of State, and approves the appointment of Gloria Taft to serve on the Canvassing Board. This Resolution also discharges the Canvassing Board with thanks to Gloria Taft.
