Home My WebLink AboutReso 2015-2424 RESOLUTION NO. 2015- zyzS A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE DONATION OF SURPLUS COMPUTER EQUIPiMENT TO BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF GREATER MIAMI AND'SOUTH FLORIDA DIGITAL ALLIANCE; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach has a tradition of participating and assisting various social service programs; and WHEREAS, Big Brothers Big_ Sisters of Greater Miami and South Florida Digital Alliance enhances the quality of life for South Florida residents representing the anchor , institutions of our community for education, government, healthcare' and non-profit organizations, have both expressed a desire to utilize certain computer equipment; and WHEREAS, the City is in possession of surplus computers and computer monitors that have been decommissioned over the past two to three years, and are no longer viable for business use in the City and wishes to donate them to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami, and to South Florida Digital Alliance. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Donation of Surplus Computer Equipment. The City Commission hereby approves the donation of surplus computer equipment to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami, and to South Florida Digital Alliance. Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. Russo,City Manager FROM: Derrick L.Arias,Chief Information Officer DATE: 6/18/2015 RE: Donation of Surplus Computer Equipment RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission approve this Resolution authorizing the City Manager to donate the surplus computer equipment described below to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami and South Florida Digital Alliance. REASONS: The City is in possession of a significant amount of surplus computers and computer equipment which is no longer viable for business use in the City. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami(BBBSGM)has a long and successful history of mentorine at-risk youth.Founded in 1958,its mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring,professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.BBBSGM provides the community with a long-term prevention service and youth-development program through its various mentoring programs.Programs address the urgent needs and complex issues associated with poverty and declining graduation rates by providing children and young people with adult mentors who interact with them on a regular basis.The programs support more than 2.100 one-to-one matches in which a trained volunteer mentor is paired with a child or young person. The South Florida Digital Alliance was incorporated as a non-profit entity in May of 2009 under the name of the Miami-Dade Broadband Coalition. The organization's founding was made possible by a generous grant provided by the John S.and James L. Knight Foundation in support of connecting organizations to the Internet and each other to provide opportunities for all segments of our community and thereby enhance the quality of life for South Florida residents to enhance the quality of their lives.The founding organizations of the Coalition/Alliance represent the anchor institutions of our community: education,government, healthcare and non-profit organizations.The remaining equipment that is not accepted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami will be donated to this organization to help our local community.
